A rainy day is no match for Canada Day

Usually, a rainy day in the summertime means staying inside and staring glumly out the window while you wait for the skies to clear. But here at Manitou, we think summer rain is pretty useful. Why? It’s a way to get wet with warm water before a swim check, it parts your hair neatly for a lice check, and it makes for great splashing as you stomp through puddles on your way to every corner of camp!

In other words, the rain was no match for yesterday’s first full day at Manitou. In fact, we saw a record-breaking number of smiles in the dining hall at lunch, though maybe we should credit that to the fact that Justin Bieber and Celine Dion were playing throughout the meal. Canada Day celebrations were in full swing all day, thanks to our two tireless program coordinators Steve and Sam. We heard silly Canadian-themed announcements (free healthcare in the health center, exchange rates between Canadian and American campers’ clothing items), saw campers of all ages decked out in festive red and white, and bopped along to songs by Canadian pop stars including Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne and our very own Mike Plume.

Kailee and the rest of our scheduling dream team have been hard at work adjusting campers’ schedules so that for today’s first day of activities, everyone was where they wanted to be.

That’s all for now. Hope the weather in the city is as nice as it is on Lake Manitou-Wabing.

Cheers,
Manny & Friends
