Benji is our Activity Director working with Activity Heads on a daily basis from the programming side. He manages the skill level development and awards at activities. Benji during the off-season times, has always lent his creative side to the design of camp, adding a special touch to our facilities. Benji also works on managing the facility and the off-season groups. From Michigan by way of Austin, Texas, Benji is a graduate of Central Michigan University with degrees in Two-Dimensional Art and Spanish. He studied abroad in Chile and Italy during his university days and taught English and Spanish language courses. Since graduating, Benji has worked as a scenic artist for Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater in Boston, worked as a professional woodworker and artist, and travelled the world. He has spent the past year starting a lighting and design studio in Austin and travelling through Asia, as well fixing up his beloved 1987 VW bus. The Manitou Hockey League has voted him best international player multiple times and he serves as commissioner of Manitou’s premier fantasy football league. Among his crowning achievements, in 2011 Benji was named World Games captain of Team Portugal. A long-time Head of Creative Arts, this will be Benji’s 10th summer at Manitou and 4th as Activity Director.
