IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION

Dear Manitou Families:

At Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, we welcome over 100 Manitou campers each summer from over 25 destinations the world over. Our friendly staff who are experts in making your child feel at ease, will be at the airport to greet your child on arrival day. For those of you who have family or friends in Toronto, we strongly recommend you to have your child arrive in Toronto a day or two in advance of the camp arrival day and take the Toronto bus up to camp. We know it is a big commitment to send your child to us by airplane and we are always trying to make this part of the journey as easy as possible for both parents and campers. We are proud of our excellent record in that all of our campers have arrived and departed in a safe and efficient manner. Please look over the Manitou Travel Checklist to help prepare you and your child(ren) for arrival and departure day this summer.

Once you have made your child’s arrangements, please login at https://manitoucamp.campbrainregistration.com/ to fill out your child(ren)’s Transportation Form. (click view registration details to find form). You can also email Jen (jen@manitoucamp.com) with your child’s flight confirmation.

Manitou Travel Checklist:

  1. Campers arriving from outside Canada must have a valid passport (not photocopy). Please book flights so your child arrives at Pearson International Airport in Toronto between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM on arrival day and departing Pearson International Airport AFTER 1:00 PM and before 5:00 PM if possible.will provide a suggested flight list for recommended airlines/flights from major cities in the spring. Manitou staff will be on hand to greet ALL flights and assist kids with their bags to the camp bus. While most campers won’t have much of a wait, sometimes a wait is possible as a result of flight delays. Rest assured that the kids are always supervised and will be fed and sent on their way as soon as possible. Our staff will be waiting for your child just outside the baggage area with a sign and a Manitou t-shirt.
  2. Before camp you will receive a “Manitou Travel Pouch” for each new camper. (Last years campers should still have one). Please ensure that your child keeps all important travel documents in the travel pouch and turns it over to the Manitou Bus Captain upon arrival. Of course, our bus captains will request from each child this pouch and other important documents and medication. This pouch (or documents) will be stored in our camp safe and returned on departure day. This pouch should contain your child’s passport, approximately $40.00, airline ticket/confirmation, letter of authorization and any contact information for your child. If your child is travelling with a cellphone or other electronic equipment, please label it clearly with your child’s name and our staff will collect this once they meet at the airport. Please ensure your child has our camp number 1-705-389-2410 if flying alone and is bringing a cell phone in case they have trouble inside the baggage area. We don’t allow phones at camp but understand you may be sending your child with a phone for travel, which is fine. Our staff will keep your child’s phone with their passport and it will stay in our safe during the session.
  3. Letter of Authorization to travel unaccompanied: most airlines and customs officials now require that each child has a letter from the parent stating information regarding custody/guardian of your child. Included in the PDF you will find a sample letter which can be filled in and included with the travel pouch.
  4. Unaccompanied Minors: While most airlines now require all children under 16 to travel as unaccompanied minors, not all do. You must check with the airline you are booked with to fully understand their policy and fees. (Almost all require an extra fee for this service.) We strongly suggest that you use this service as well for all direct flights. We will check-in your child as an Unaccompanied Minor unless otherwise stated in the travel report form. If this service has not been paid for direct to the airline, we will pay for the service and charge the fee to you afterward.
  5. Optional Private Limousine Service: If you wish to have your child driven from the airport by a private Limousine to limit wait time at the airport, please contact Jen at the office at 416-322-5888 to arrange. The cost of this service is approximately $600.00.
  6. Please reconfirm your child’s arrival time on the return flight home. Airlines often change the schedule and we know you want to be at the airport with ample time to greet your child! You can also check-in your child ahead of time and email Jen the boarding pass.
  7. Most importantly, any questions at all? Please call Jen at our office in Toronto at 416-322-5888 or e-mail us at jen@manitoucamp.com. Jen will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
  8. We are thrilled to welcome so many campers from all over the world. It is one of the things that make Manitou so special.

Have a safe flight!

Jeff and Mark

Arriving by Car

We do not encourage parents to drop-off their kids as we feel part of the camp experience is taking the bus to and from camp. We do realize that there are times when people may decide to drop-off and pick-up their child(ren). The timing of drop-offs and pick-ups can be challenging since campers are coming and going at all times.

It is critical that for drop-offs you arrive at 4:00 p.m. If you arrive before 4:00 pm you must wait until a staff person gives you permission to enter camp! For pick-ups you should arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Please call the office when you reach McKellar so that we can have staff at the gate to greet you!
