Scott Aitchison
Specialists
From the South Island of New Zealand, Scott has spent the past year travelling through the United States and Canada. Scott worked professionally in radio for four years at The Radio Network in Wellington. More recently he spent the summer of 2009 as a Unit Leader and Waterski instructor at William Lawrence Camp in New Hampshire. Scott is currently completing his Bronze Medallion and joins us for his first summer at Manitou.
Christopher Ambury

From Kingston, Ontario, Christopher is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Geography and English. He has past volunteer experience as a Counsellor with Nature Explorer's Camp and as a leader with Wilderness Backpacking Experience. In high school he worked extensively with his student council, serving as Head Boy and being presented with the Principal's Award for Student Leadership. He also holds his NLS. This will be Christopher's first summer at Manitou.
Luis Arevalo Recalde

From Pasto Narino, Colombia, Luis works as a full time music teacher. He has studied Music, Architecture and German Language and also plays with his own band, having experience with guitar, keyboards and drums. A regular volunteer with the YMCA in Colombia, Luis also has camp experience in the United States at Camp Woodhaven and the Cambridge School of Weston Summer Day Camp, both in Massachusetts. He joins us for his fourth summer at Manitou.
Benji Boudreau

From Holland, Michigan, Benji is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in 2-D Art and Spanish. Benji has experience studying abroad and travelling through Argentina, Peru and Chile where he volunteered as a Conversation Group Leader at the Universidad Austral. More recently he has taught a beginner Spanish course at CMU and was a Scene Shop Assistant building sets for the Theatre Department. Benji returns for his second summer at Manitou.
Katelyn Brooks

From Hamilton, Ontario, Katelyn is a student in the Concurrent Education Outdoor Adventure Leadership program at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Katelyn has extensive canoe tripping experience in Temagami, Tobermory and Algonquin and holds her ORCA level C, Bronze Cross and Wilderness Experience certifications and is currently completing her Wilderness First Responder certification. She has volunteer experience working with Alan A Greenleaf Public School and with Neise's Studio of Dance. This will be Katelyn's first summer working at Manitou.
Melissa Bruce

From Toronto, Ontario, Melissa has spend much of the past few years travelling abroad to countries including Australia, Spain, India and Nepal. In the fall and winter of 2009, she spent several months teaching English in Spain. Previously a student at York University studying Sociology, Melissa has past experience working as a counsellor at the Toronto Cricket Club Day Camp, as well as a leader for Brownies and Girl Guides. She has also completed the OCA's Skills Weekend Kayaking stream and holds her Bronze Cross. She returns for her fifth summer at Manitou.
Brodie Clapperton

From Melbourne, Australia, Brodie has spent the past year working at a resort in Golden, British Colombia. He was previously studying Sport & Outdoor Education at Monash University before embarking on his travels through Thailand, Nepal and Europe before coming to Canada. He holds certifications in Flatwater Paddling, First Aid as well as his Bronze Medallion. This will be his second summer working at Manitou.
Timothy Clutton

From Toronto, Ontario, Timothy is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston with degrees in Education and Chemistry. During the year, he has worked as a Senior Residence Don at school. Over the past several summers, he worked as the Assistant Director and LIT Director at camp Ke-mon-oya and also has experience as a counsellor at Cam Widjiitiwin. He holds his NLS and ORCA level 1 certifications. This will be Timothy's first summer at Manitou.
Jesse Crisci

From Milton, Ontario, Jesse is a student in the Outdoor Adventure Business Program at Algonquin College. Through his program Jesse has done extensive adventure trip planning and holds his Wilderness First Responder, Swift-water Rescue Technician level 2, ORCA Instructor and IMBA Trail Guide Patroller certifications and is currently completing his Bronze Medallion. This will be Jesse's first summer at Manitou.
Keirstyn Daye

From Sarnia, Ontario, Keirstyn is a graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa with a degree in Law and English Literature. She has also taken numerous Visual Arts programs, and is currently working towards her Yoga Instructors certification. She was the captain of her high school Swim team and hold her Bronze Cross and Wilderness First Aid certification. Keirstyn also has previous camp experience working as a counsellor for two years at Camp Olalondo near London. This will be Keirstyn's fourth summer at Manitou.
Troy Dettwiler

From Elmira, Ontario, Troy is a graduate of Humber College with an advanced diploma in Film and Television Production. He has supervised an 'at risk' youth ecological restoration project and worked as a Resident Assistant focused on environmental programs. Troy also spent time competing with his school's swim team and is completing his Bronze Medallion. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Kylee Dixon

From Nanaimo, British Columbia, Kylee is a graduate of Vancouver Island University with a diploma in Recreation and Sport Management. She previously has taken several courses in Photography. Kylee has works as a Summer Recreation Coordinator with Beach Club Resort and has volunteered with Big Borthers and Sisters BC. She also worked as a teacher's aide in Australia in 2007. This will be Kylee's first summer at Manitou.
Alli Duess

From Kingston, Ontario, Alli is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Equity Studies and Sociology. During the year, she is a member of her school's Debate and Ski and Snowboard Clubs, also participating in events with Party for a Cause and Habitat for Humanity. She also has experience as a swimming and fitness instructor and holds her NLS and CYA Bronze 4 certifications. A Manitou camper for two years, Alli completed our CIT program in 2004. She returns after several years for her third summer on staff.
Erica Everett

From Waterdown, Ontario, Erica is a student in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership program at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Through this program, Erica has been out on many canoe trips and holds her Bronze Cross and Wilderness First Aid certifications. She also has past experience as the Head Counsellor at Sun Camp at Farendale Farms and was captain of her team as a member of the Burlington Youth Soccer Club. This will be Erica's second season at Manitou.
Katie Kavanagh

From St. Catharines, Ontario, Kaitlyn is a graduate of Sheridan College in Oakville with an applied degree in Illustration. She previously completed a certificate in Art Fundamentals at Sheridan and has had work displayed at the Beverly Owens Gallery and at The Bean coffeehouse in Toronto. Kaitlyn returns after a year away for her second summer on staff at Manitou.
Ben Kim

Originally from Geoje, South Korea, Ben is a graduate of the University of Calgary with a Masters degree in Music Composition. He is previously a graduate of Grimmel College in Iowa with a combined degree in Biology and Music. Ben has extensive experience working as a director, music director, rehearsal pianist, accompanist, and conductor for a range of musical theatre and operatic productions. He is also a member of the University of Calgary Chamber Choir. He has previous camp experience as an English Instructor at Global Rookie Club camp in Korea. This will be Ben's second summer at Manitou.
Callum Labonte

From St. Catharines, Ontario, Callum is a graduate of Brock University with a degree in Environmental Geoscience. Callum has past experience working as a Karate instructor with Seido Kan Karate School and Camp and also coached in the Concord Soccer League. He also has experience in set design and construction, working in carpentry and plays bass guitar. This will be Callum's second summer at Manitou.
Pat Loiselle

From Perth, Ontario, Pat is a graduate of Guelph Humber in Toronto with a degree in Kinesiology. He previously completed a diploma in Fitness and Health promotion and was college valedictorian in 2008. He has spent four months travelling through Central America and worked eight months teaching rock climbing on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. He has past experience as a counsellor both with the YMCA and Golden Lake Camp. A competitive soccer player for many years, Pat also sings and plays guitar and saxophone. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
James Lugsdin

Originally from Sydney, Australia, James has been working much of the past year as a Lift Attendant and Hostel Manager at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, British Colombia. He is a graduate of Charles Stuart University with a degree in Advertising and since graduation has travelled the world through Europe, North and South America. He has past experience as a Cadet Camp leader and Tutor with the Shore School and in high school captained the Rugby and Basketball teams. He is also an avid waterskier and holds his Bronze Medallion. This will be James' first summer at Manitou.
Wesley O'Brien

From Limerick, Ireland, Wesley is a student at Limerick Senior College studying Journalism and Political Studies. He previously completed a professional diploma in Photography and was nominated as Sports Photographer of the Year at the Irish Student Media Awards. He has worked with the Killaloe-Ballina Tennis club in various coaching roles for over 13 years. He also completed a Soccer Coaching course and worked last summer at Camp California in Croatia. This will be Wesley`s first summer at Manitou.
Eric Ormsby

From Woodslee, Ontario, Eric is a student at the Outdoor Adventure Naturalist program at Algonquin College in Ottawa. He is also a graduate of Brock University in St.Catharines with a degree in History. Eric has past experience working at Basketball camps at Brock and at Belle River High School and was a member of the Brock University Men's team. Eric also has extensive fishing experience and basic astronomy training. He holds his Wilderness First Responder, Swift Water Rescue, ORCA Instructor, Leave No Trace Instructor and Bronze Cross certifications. He returns for his fourth summer at Manitou.

From Mississauga, Ontario, Kati is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston with a degree in Music. She also has completed her grade 8 piano and grade 10 vocal qualifications with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Kati has worked with the City of Mississauga for five years as a Swim Instructor and Lifeguard and holds her NLS, Instructors and Aquatic Supervisor certifications. She also worked as a Mentor for two seasons with Interprovincial Music Camp hosted at Manitou. This will be her first summer on staff.

From Kitchener, Ontario, Steve is a student at Brock University in St. Catharines studying Philosophy. He previously completed a Tourism Management program at Niagara College. During the year, Steve works in the Youth University program at his school. He has past experience as a Team Leader and Events Coordinator with Kiddin' Around Productions and as a teaching assistant at St. Dominic's Elementary School. He also spent several years playing competitive Soccer and Baseball and is completing his Bronze Medallion. This will be Steve's third summer at Manitou.
Janet Rudzroga

Janet has extensive paddling and tripping experience through her high school's Outbound program and currently with her school's Kayak Club. She holds her Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness Survival, ORCA level 1 and Bronze Cross certifications. She has past experience as a Counsellor at Canterbury Earthkeeper Camp, a mentor at Flamborough Centre School and CanSkate Coach at Flamboro Skating Club. She also previously competed in touch football, rugby and badminton. This will be Janet's first summer at Manitou.

From Bogota, Colombia, Alex works during the year as a high school Spanish teacher. She is a graduate of Universidad Pedagogica with a degree in Spanish and English Education. Alex has past experience as Ropes Program Director at Camp Rotary near Boston and completed a Technical Skills course with Project Adventure. The following summer, she worked with children on a ranch in Colorado. This will be Alex's second season working at Manitou.
Kelsey Schultz

From St. Paul, Minnesota, Kelsey is a graduate of the University of St. Catherines with a degree in Communications. She previously spent time studying at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. In 2007, Kelsey served as a Resident Assistant at her school. Kelsey has over seven years experience teaching ceramics and other artistic mediums to both children and adults at Fresh Palate and not-for-profit programs. Kelsey returns after a year away for her second summer on staff at Manitou.
Matthias Sebecke

Originally from South Africa, Matthias now lives in Peterborough and is a student in the Fish and Wildlife Tech program at Sir Sandford Flemming College. He has past work experience planting trees with the OFAH Atlantic Salmon Restoration program. He also took part in a Cadet leadership camp, holds his ORCA basic B, CYA white sail 2 and Bronze Medallion certifications. This will be his first summer working at Manitou.
Jonathan Silver

From Toronto, Ontario, Aaron is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Information and Media. During the year, Aaron has been involved with the DECAU Business Club, UWO Comedy Club and Western One-Act Plays in addition to performing his own stand-up comedy routines. He has taken Improv classes with LKTYP and worked with his school's radio announcing team. He also serves as VP of philanthropy and Public Relations with his fraternity. Aaron is also a level 2 certified Umpire having worked with Baseball Ontario for several years and played competitively in high school. A Manitou camper for two years, Aaron completed our CIT program in 2006. This will be his fourth summer on staff.

During the year, Landon has worked as a Hockey Instructor with the Forest Hill Hockey Organization and has played hockey for many years. He completed the CIT program at Camp Timberlane and holds his Bronze Medallion. A Manitou camper for six years, Landon returns for his second summer on staff.
