New Staff Application
Staff Application for 2011 CIT'S
Please note that we have over 100 combinations of job description and activity assignment, requiring a specific combination of male and female staff along with different age/experience requirements. Not all positions will be available at all times. We keep all applications on file throughout the off-season and will interview applicants with experiences matching available openings as they become available.
Job categories that you can apply for include:
UNIT HEADS: Supervisors in charge of 4 to 6 cabin groups (40 - 60 campers) and their counsellors. Unit Heads are responsible for the adjustment and welfare of each camper and staff member under their supervision including wake-up, bedtime, unit programming, general camp administration, parental contact and staff evaluations, reporting to the directors. Unit Heads are completing at minimum the final year of a college or university program with significant camp experience and past supervisory experience.
ACTIVITY HEADS: Lead instructors in one of our 30 program areas. In addition to teaching, they are responsible for program development and administration including staff supervision and management. Activity Heads do not maintain cabin responsibilities, but will be involved in various aspects of camp life at the end of the program day. Activity Heads are people with a strong background in a specific program area, ideally having taught, coached, trained or learned throughout college or university or beyond. They are at minimum are completing the third year of a college or university program or equivalent.
SPECIALISTS: In several of our larger or more complicated program areas (usually waterfront, outdoor adventure or visual arts programs), one lead instructor is often not sufficient. We often hire a second “specialist” to assist the activity head in these areas. While these activity assistants are not responsible for program administration, most of their day-to-day responsibilities are the same as the Activity Head. As such the requirements for the position are the same as for an Activity Head.
CANOE TRIPPERS: Leaders for our out of camp Canoe Tripping Program, trippers will guide small groups of campers and staff through wilderness canoe routes, out of camp from 2 to 6 days at a time. Trippers must have exceptional leadership and people skills in addition to top swimming, canoeing and first aid certifications. They must be at minimum completing the first year of a college/university program or equivalent.
ACTIVITY COUNSELLORS: The bulk of our staff is made up of counsellors working in a dual role. Counsellors work in teams of two in a cabin with 8 – 12 campers, looking after their general welfare from wake-up to bedtime, including meals and evening program. During the day, counsellors work at a specific activity in which they have a strong background and are comfortable teaching. Activity Counsellors must be at minimum completing the first year of a college/university program or equivalent.
GENERAL COUNSELLORS: A small number of counsellors working with our youngest campers (ages 7-9) will not work at an activity area during the day. Instead, this group of staff work together to ensure that the youngest campers receive the extra level of support and supervision that they often need during the day and will organize daily cabin activity periods. General Counsellors may also assist in planning camp-wide or unit programming. General Counsellors must be at minimum completing the first year of a college/university program or equivalent.
JUNIOR COUNSELLORS: Share similar responsibilities to Activity Counsellors or General Counsellors, but our younger and would be working with an older counsellor in the cabin. Junior counsellor must be completing, at minimum grade 11 or equivalent. Please note that most years Junior Counsellor openings are filled with our CITs from the previous seasons. Please contact our office after January to inquire if any positions are available.
SUPPORT STAFF: We also hire several people for specialized positions including Registered Nurses (or graduate nurses), Office Assistants, Dining Room and Maintenance Staff. Requirement differ for each position. Contact our office for more information.
