Abi Berkley
Counsellors
From Thornhill, Ontario, Abi is a student at McGill University in Montreal studying Management. Abi has previous experience as an Assistant Dance Instructor through Vibe studio. She also holds her NLS and Swimming Instructors certification. Abi was a Manitou camper for two years, completing our CIT program in 2006. This will be her third summer on staff and fifth summer at Manitou.

Robbie Black

From Gladstone, Australia, Robbie has been working over the past year as an English Teacher at Treebell School in Kawaguchi, Japan. He is a graduate of the University of Queensland with a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management. He has previous experience as a Cub Scout leader for two years and as a Lifeguard with the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club. This will be his first summer on staff at Manitou.

Anna Bowers

From Kitchener, Ontario, Anna is a student at the University of Waterloo studying Psychology. She has been playing tennis for six years with the Northfield Racquet Club, has taught at various workshops and camps and competed with her school team through high school. She also has experience as a Children’s Bereavement Group Leader and as a Program Volunteer with Creekside Church. This will be Anna’s first summer at Manitou.

Erin Browne

Originally from Beaudesert, Australia, for the past two years Erin has been living and working in Leeds, England and travelling extensively. Erin has previous experience as a Counsellor and High Ropes/Climbing instructor at a camp in South Carolina and working at Sunkids Childcare Centre in Australia. She also has experience as a competitive dancer and cheerleader while she was in high school. This will be Erin’s first summer at Manitou.

Melissa Bruce

From Toronto, Ontario, Melissa is a student at York University studying Sociology. She recently spent a year travelling abroad in Australia. Melissa has past experience working as a counsellor at the Toronto Cricket Club Day Camp, as well as a leader for Brownies and Girl Guides. She has also volunteered as a Teacher’s Assistant and holds her Bronze Cross. She returns for her fourth summer at Manitou.

Leanna Cappiello

From Caledon, Ontario, Leanna is a student at the University of Windsor in the Drama in Education and Community program. During the year, Leanna works as a Resident Assistant through her school. She has past experience as volunteer Teaching Assistant at the Caledon Art Studio, running her own Drama Camp and has previous camp experience at Teopoli and Mini-yo-we. This will be Leanna’s first summer at Manitou.

Miranda Chartrand

From Guelph, Ontario, Miranda is a graduate of John F. Ross CVI. During the year, Miranda plays, refs and coaches rugby. She also was a dancer for 10 years and has experience volunteering as a tutor with a special needs class at her school. This will be Miranda’s first summer at Manitou.

Kristin Clancy

From Southampton, Ontario, Kristin is a graduate of Saugeen District Secondary. For the past two years Kristin has worked as a peer leader with her local heath unit and also helped to create the Saugeen Youth Coalition. Kristin has taken many Art courses through high school and was an Interprovincial Music Camper for five years. This will be her first summer on staff at Manitou.

Byron Clarke

From St. Catharines, Ontario, Byron is a student at Brock Univeristy studying Business. Over the past semester he has been studying at the University of Dijon in France. Byron has played organized hockey, softball, soccer and golf as well as working as a score keeper for local and provincial teams. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

Robyn Cone

From Corbyville, Ontario, Robyn is a student at Laurentian University in Sudbury studying Education and English. Robyn has past experience as a Teaching Assistant at Corpus Christi School and as a Child Care Worker at Sunshine Day Care. She also took Art courses throughout high school and as worked as an assistant Woodworker. This will be Robyn’s first summer at Manitou.

Ben Cowley

From Toronto, Ontario, Ben is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Political Science. During the year, Ben served as his Fraternity’s pledge class president. Ben previously completed on school Hockey and Snowboard teams. He also has experience as an assistant ski instructor with Alpine Ski Club and holds his Bronze Cross. Ben was a Manitou camper for eight years, completing our CIT program in 2006. This will be his third summer on staff and eleventh at Manitou.

Laura Dempsey

From Mississauga, Ontario, Laura is a student at Sheridan College studying general Arts and Science. Laura also works as a Swimming Instructor and Lifeguard with the City of Mississauga, holding her WSI and NLS certifications. She was also a Junior Leader with the Girl Guides of Canada and a rep Soccer player. This will be Laura’s third summer at Manitou.

Kyla Dhanraj

Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Kyla grew up in Laurel, Maryland before returning to Toronto to study Psychology at York University. Kyla plays tennis throughout the year and was on her high school team for four years. She also has experience as a Student Ambassador for York, volunteered as a Teacher’s Assistant at Forest Ridge Elementary School and took ballet and tap lessons for 10 years. This will be Kyla’s first summer at Manitou.

Carly Diamond

From Toronto, Ontario, Carly is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Science. Carly has past experience at a CIT and staff member at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park and has also worked as a Swim Instructor with the London Blind Swim Program. She holds her NLS and WSI certifications. A Manitou camper for three years, Carly returns after many years away for her first summer on staff.

Jason Freder

From Montreal, Quebec, Jason is a student at McGill University studying Social Work. During the year Jason competes for McGill’s Alpine Ski team in slalom and giant slalom. He has experience working with developmentally disables adults at the Creative Arts Therapy Centre at Concordia University and has previously been heavily involved in volunteer activities, including working with the 100K cycle and with Kids on the Block and the Shriner’s Hospital. Jason is also an avid waterskier and holds his Bronze Cross. A Manitou camper for five years, he completed our CIT program in 2005. This will be his fourth summer on staff and ninth summer at Manitou.

Brittany Greene

From Toronto, Ontario, Brittany is a student at McMaster University in Hamilton studying Health Sciences. During the year, Brittany competes with McMasters Varsity Cheerleading team and volunteers with Best Buddies. She holds Level 1 coaching certifications in gymnastics and snowboarding and completed the CWSIC as a waterskiing instructor. She has also umpired with North Toronto Baseball, danced competitively for over 10 years and holds her Bronze Medallion and PCO card. Brittany’s past camp experience includes completing the CIT program at Camp Biluim. This will be her third summer at Manitou.

Spencer Hoffman

From Toronto, Ontario, Spencer is a student in the Ivey AGO program at the University of Western Ontario in London. During the year, Spencer serves as the Philanthropy chair of his fraternity and sits on Western Hillel’s executive council. Formerly, Spencer competed in DECA and served as a student retreat leader. He plays hockey, softball and rugby and has coaching experience with a select minor hockey team. He also holds his Bronze Cross and CPO card. Spencer was a Manitou camper for seven years, completing our CIT program in 2006. This will be his third summer on staff and tenth at Manitou.

Paul Hussman

From Toronto, Ontario, Paul is a student at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec studying Computer Science. An avid downhill skier, water skier and mountain biker, Paul has completed the WCSIC waterski instructors course and also holds his Bronce Cross and CPO card. He volunteers with the Peace by Peace program in Montreal and has experience as a ski instructor at Earl Bales park. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

David Levine

From Toronto, Ontario, David is a student at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. During the year David competes in a broad range of sports and has experience as both a hockey and tennis Coach. David also has experience as a counsellor at Camp Timberlane and holds his Bronze Medallion and PCO card. A Manitou camper for eight years, David completed our CIT program in 2006. He returns after several years away for his first summer on staff.

Cody Manton

From Thornhill, Ontario, Cody is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying general arts. Cody has played hockey and basketball competitively. He also has past experience as a CIT and counsellor at Camp Timberlane, as a Party Host at Active Kids Zone and holds his Bronze Medallion. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

Charlie (Chuckles) Moscoe

From Toronto, Ontario, Charlie is a graduate of Tanenbaum Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto. Over the past year, Charlie has been travelling and volunteering abroad in Israel, Africa and Asia working extensively with children and the Israeli National Parks system. He has experience as a free lance small scale Video Producer and has also volunteered as a Computers Instructor at USDS. He is an avid skier and snowboarder and holds his Bronze Medallion. A Manitou camper for seven years, Charlie completed our CIT program in 2006. He returns for his third summer on staff and tenth at Manitou.

Julia O'Sullivan

Originally from Sutton, Quebec, Julia grew up in Dublin, Ireland and is a student at University College Dublin studying Genetics and Zoology. Julia has past experience working with Robinson Stables Summer Camp for three years. She is an avid horseback rider with experience in competition and has acted and directed theatrical productions with her school. This will be Julia’s first summer at Manitou.

Mike Penney

From Belleville, Ontario, Mike is a student at Nipissing University in North Bay studying Physical Education and French. Mike previously completed a diploma at Loyalist College in Fitness and Health Promotion and has completed his NCCP level 1 and OFC level 1 weight instructor certifications. A competitive tennis player for eight years, Mike has also has coached, reffed and played football and rugby. He has past experience as a Physical Education Assistant at Bayside Public School and Centennial Secondary School. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

Brett Piva

From Milton, Ontario, Brett is a graduate of Christ The King Catholic Secondary. Bret has played competitive soccer for over 14 years and has also taken numerous woodworking courses through his school. He has past experience as a camp volunteer with the Town of Halton Hills, has volunteered as a Kindergarten Assistant through his school and plays bass guitar. This will be Brett’s first summer at Manitou.

Stephanie Ray

From Toronto, Ontario, Stephanie is a student at New York University in New York, New York studying Economics. Stephanie has experience volunteering as a teaching assistant at United Synagogue Day School. She is an avid Tennis player and holds her NLS certification. A Manitou camper for eight years, Stephanie completed our CIT program in 2006. This will be her third summer on staff and eleventh at Manitou.

Samantha Resendes

From Toronto, Ontario, Samantha is a student at York University studying Vocal Music. During the year, Samantha teaches private vocal lessons and previously volunteered with the Canadian Children’s Opera Company. She has prior camp experience with Markham Museum Camp, Camp Green Acres and F.A.C. Camp. This will be her first summer at Manitou.

Steve Richards

From Kitchener, Ontario, Steve is a student at Niagara College/Brock University in St. Catharines studying Tourism Management. He has past experience as a Team Leader and Events Coordinator with Kiddin’ Around Productions and as a teaching assistant at St. Dominic’s Elementary School. He also spent several years playing competitive Soccer and Baseball. This will be Steve’s second summer at Manitou.

Erika Rivers

From Mississauga, Ontario, Erika is a student at Humber College in the Social Service Worker program. She has previous experience as a teaching assistant with Kindergarten and special needs classed through Castlebridge Public School. This will be her first summer working at Manitou.

Kayla Robins

From Aurora, Ontario, Kayla is a student at Queens University in Kingston studying Film and Media. During the year, Kayla serves as a residence floor representative and works part time at the Queen’s Day Care. Kayla has played competitive, Tennis Basketball and Badminton, holds her OTA level 1 coaching certification and her Bronze Medallion. She also has experience working with children at Camp Arrowhead. A Manitou camper for seven years, Kayla completed our CIT program in 2006. This will be her third summer on staff and tenth at Manitou.

Nicole Rosove

From Ottawa, Ontario, Nicole is a student at Carleton University studying Human Rights and Communications. She has had extensive training in jazz, ballet, hip hop and lyrical dance and has instructed children’s ballet classes with Les Petits Ballets. She currently dances with the University of Ottawa GeeGees Dance team and formerly with Culture Shock Canada. She also holds her Bronze Medallion. This will be her first summer at Manitou.

Matt Salomon

From Los Angeles, California, Matt is a student at Hofstra University in New York City studying Film and Photography. Through his program, Matt has had extensive artistic training and darkroom experience. He also has experience as a counsellor at Camp Akiba in Pennsylvania and was a Manitou camper for three years. He returns after many summers away for his first season on staff at Manitou.

Kelly Shamblee Johnson

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Kelly grew up in the Poconos and is a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania studying Criminology. A competitive tennis player, Kelly plays division II collegiate tennis at school. She has past experience working as a Tennis Instructor and counsellor at Camp Lohikan and as a counsellor at Upward Bound Asthma Camp. This will be her first summer working at Manitou.

Matt Shantz

From Waterloo, Ontario, Matt is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Business Administration. During the year, Matt serves as a floor president in residence and is an executive member of the Western squash club. He plays baseball, basketball, rugby, football, soccer, squash and tennis. He also has experience as a camp executive at St. Michael’s Church and holds his Bronze Medallion. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

Aaron Sinukoff

From Toronto, Ontario, Aaron is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Information and Media. During the year, Aaron is involved with the DECAU Business Club, UWO Comedy Club and Western One-Act Plays in addition to performing his own stand-up comedy routines. He has taken Improv classes with LKTYP and worked with his school’s radio announcing team. Aaron is also a level 2 certified Umpire having worked with Baseball Ontario for several years and played competitively in high school. A Manitou camper for two years, Aaron completed our CIT program in 2006. This will be his third summer on staff and fifth at Manitou.

Alex Steinberg

From Montreal, Quebec, Alex is a graduate of Marianopolis College CEGEP having studied Creative Arts and Literature. Alex was involved in her school’s theatre program throughout high school and was a competitive Figure Skater, coaching at TMRESC. She also worked with children at the Jewish General Hospital and holds her Bronze Medallion. A Manitou camper for eight years, Alex completed our CIT program in 2006. She returns for her second summer on staff and tenth summer at Manitou.

Jessi Stern

From Toronto, Ontario, Jessi is a student at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo studying general arts. During the year, Jessi is an executive with her school’s “Activities Team.” In high school she played on her school’s Basketball and Softball teams and also sat on the student council. She also has experience as an Umpire with North Toronto Baseball, has volunteered at Eglington School and holds her Bronze Cross. Jessi was a Manitou camper for six years completing our CIT program in 2006. This will be her third summer on staff and ninth at Manitou.

Ryan Stewart

From Shelburne, Ontario, Ryan is a student at Laurentian University in Sudbury in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership program. Ryan holds ORCA Canoe Tripping level 1, Bronze Medallion, Wilderness Survival and Wilderness First Responder certification. He has past experience as a crew leader a Peace Valley Ranch and as an Assistant Coach with Hockey Canada Development and CDDHS Royals Hockey. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

Sam Stuchbury

From Auckland, New Zealand, Sam is a graduate of the Kristin School. He has spent much of the last year travelling through Europe. Sam has past experience as a Holiday Program Instructor at The Leisure Centre and as a counsellor at Kristin School Island Camp. He has also played and coached soccer for many years and worked as a Lifeguard at The Leisure Centre. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

Eric Stumpf

From Charlottesville, Virginia, Eric is a student at Piedmont Virginia Community College . He spent two years at Crested Butte Academy in Colorado where he trained and competed in national Snowboarding competitions throughout the U.S. Eric is an avid waterskier and holds his STARguard Lifeguarding certification. He also plays the Banjo. A Manitou camper for three seasons, Eric completed our CIT program in 2005. This will be his fourth summer on staff and seventh summer at Manitou.

From Newcastle, Australia, Rebecca is a student at Southern Cross University studying Environmental Science. During the year, she plays both indoor and Beach volleyball. She is also a certified lifeguard and has experience working as a Lifesaver with Sansea-Belmont SLSC. This will be Rebecca’s first summer at Manitou.

Christian Toracchio

From Windsor, Ontario, Christian is a student at York University in Toronto studying Communications. During the year, he works as a porter at his school residence. He has past experience volunteering at CHRY community radio, in school theatre programs and doing a Communications and Technology Co-op placement working on video production. This will be Christian’s first summer at Manitou.

Christina Turner

From Ayr, Ontario, Christina is a student at the University of Windsor studying Drama in Education and Community. She has previous experience as a teaching assistant at Ayr Public School and at Southwood Secondary School. She also competed for eight years as a Jazz Dancer, acted for two years with the Galt Little Theatre and holds her Bronze Cross. This will be Christina’s second summer at Manitou.

Michael Weizel

From Toronto, Ontario, Mike is a student at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec studying general arts. Michael has over 10 years experience in competitive soccer and volleyball leagues and played on his high school’s Hockey team. He has also spent time volunteering with NCSY. A Manitou camper for five years, Michael completed our CIT program in 2006. This will be his second summer on staff and seventh at Manitou.

Katelyn Wright

From London, Ontario, Katelyn is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Drawing and Sculpture. During the year, Katelyn volunteers as a mentor with Chicks CLIC and runs a knitting and textile club. She has previous experience working for three seasons as a counsellor at Unicamp and teaching drawing classes at Tecumseh Community School. This will be her first summer working at Manitou.
