COUNSELLORS

Sarah Amyotte From Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Sarah is a student at Dalhousie University in Halifax studying Political Science and Law. Sarah has worked for the past two years with the Dartmouth Sportsplex as a summer camp counsellor and Dance Instructor. She also worked as a camp counsellor for the Canadian Diabetes Association in 2004. Sarah has many years experience in Theatre and Dance having worked with the Neptune Theatre School’s Young Performance Company. She joins us for her first summer at Manitou.
Jon Atlas From Toronto, Ontario, Jon is a student at Ryerson University studying Commerce and majoring in Management. Jon has experience playing high school Basketball and also coached for a number of years. A Manitou camper for seven years, Jon completed our CIT program in 1997. He returns after several years away for his fifth summer on staff and 12th at Manitou.
Jessica Augarten From Scarsdale, New York, Jessica is a student at the University of Maryland studying Business. While in high school Jessica was the head of fundraising of the SHS chapter of Free the Children. She was a Manitou camper for 3 years, completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be her sixth summer at camp and third on staff.
Rebecca Bacchioni From Rye Brook, New York, Rebecca is a student at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. While in high school, she was the captain of her school’s varsity soccer and volleyball teams, and was also a member of the school’s dance team. With her dance studio, she performed with the senior company in hip hop, modern and jazz. Rebecca was a Manitou camper for 3 years, completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be her sixth summer at Manitou and third on staff.
Daniel Bercovici From Thornhill, Ontario, Daniel is a graduate of the Business Computer Systems program at Seneca College in Toronto. Daniel has also been a competitive hockey player for many years. Daniel was a Manitou camper for four years completing our CIT program in 2001. This will be his sixth summer on staff and tenth summer at Manitou.
Melissa Brody From Atlanta, Georgia, Melissa is a student at the University of Georgia in Athens studying Genetics and Spanish. Throughout high school, Melissa played on her schools varsity golf, basketball and soccer teams. He has also worked as a counsellor at the Concourse Athletic Club and at Tophat Soccer Club. She returns for her second summer working at Manitou.
Melissa Bruce From Toronto, Ontario, Melissa is a student at York University studying Sociology. Melissa has experience working as a counsellor at the Toronto Cricket Club Day Camp, as well as a leader for Brownies and Girl Guides. She has also volunteered as a teacher’s assistant and hold her Bronze Cross. She returns for her second summer at Manitou.
Leigh Bryant Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Leigh grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec with a degree in International Development and Religious Studies. During the year, Leigh worked as a ‘Floor Fellow’ supervisor in the McGill residence system. She has also been involved in theatre programs for over 12 years, writing, acting and directing; and was a national level Synchronized Swimmer, holding her NCCP level one coaching certification. This will be Leigh’s first summer working at Manitou.
Karina Campbell From Revesby, Australia, Karina has been travelling and working for much of the past year in Whistler, British Columbia. She is a graduate of the University of Western Sydney with a degree in Design and Technology and also has experience operating her own Tutoring company for four years. Karina has played basketball for the past 10 years, captaining her team to a state championship while in school. She also has four years experience as a coach and referee. This will be Karina’s first summer at Manitou.
Alison Cassidy From Kingston, Ontario, Alison is a student at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec studying Geography and Psychology. During the year Alison is a member of the McGill Model UN and Newman Studends Society. She has past experience as a Tutor in Math and French and s a member of her high school’s student council. Alison was a camper at RKY Camp and holds her Bronze Cross. This will be her first summer at Manitou.
Diego Collado From Lima, Peru, Diego is a student at the Photography Institute of Lima. Diego has an extensive arts background, but has also worked as an Assistant Coach through F.D.R. school summer camp in 2003. He has experience as a teacher and program developer through a community service program in Manchay and has volunteer experience at a local Children’s Hospital. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Lindsay Comeau From North Bay, Ontario, Lindsay is a graduate of the Social Service Worker program at Canadore College. Through this program, Lindsay has recently developed a social skills training program for students graced K-6 at E.W. Norman Public School. She also volunteers with the Big Sisters “Go Girls” program. This will be Lindsay’s first summer at Manitou.
Alex Copeland From Toronto, Ontario, Alex is a student at the University of Western Ontario on London studying Science. She holds her NLS and Swim Instructors certifications and taught swimming for two years at Frank’s Swim School. Alex was a Manitou camper for seven years, completing out CIT program in 2004. She returns for her third summer on staff and tenth at Manitou.
Brian Corner From Pickering, Ontario, Brian is a student at Trent University in Peterborough in the Concurrent Education program focusing on History and Sociology. Brian has several years training in Visual Arts, as well as three years experience in an acting program. He also has been involved in Martial Arts, holding his Blue Belt, and having experience as an instructor’s aid. Brian returns for his second summer at Manitou.
Keirstyn Daye From Sarnia, Ontario, Keirstyn is a student at Carleton University in Ottawa studying Law and English. Keirstyn has previous camp experience working as a counsellor for two years at Camp Olalondo near London. She has also taken numerous Visual Arts programs and was the captain of her high school Swim team. This will be Keirstyn’s first summer at Manitou.
Laura Dempsey From Mississauga, Ontario, Laura is a student at Sheridan College studying general Arts and Science. Laura has experience as a Swimming Instructor and Lifeguard with the City of Mississauga, holding her Swimming Instructors and NLS certifications. She was also a Junior Leader with the Girl Guides of Canada. This will be Laura’s first summer at Manitou.
Kevin Dupuis From Belle River, Ontario, Kevin is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Finance and Business Administration. Kevin has past experience as an assistant coach with the Belle River minor Hockey Association Peewee Travel Team. He also volunteered as a Math tutor in high school and is an avid golfer. This will be Kevin’s first summer working at Manitou.
Luke Engelhart From Toronto, Ontario, Luke is a student at the University of British Colombia in Vancouver studying Commerce. While in high school, Luke played on his school’s basketball, volleyball and baseball teams and also plays basketball in the NTBA and ABA. Luke also served as his school’s Student Director of Athletics and coach of the under 14 boys Basketball team. He was a Manitou camper for five years, completing our CIT program in 2004. Luke returns for his eighth summer at Manitou and third on staff.
Oren Falkovitz From Thornhill, Ontario, Oren is a student at Carleton University in Ottawa studying Film. During the year, Oren teaches Dance at the Greta Leeming Studio of Dance and has extensive Dance experience. He is also a certified Soccer referee and worked for four summers as an official with the Thornhill Soccer League. Oren joins us for his first summer at Manitou.
Sophie Fegent From Sydney, Australia, Sophie is a graduate of Charles Stuart University with a degree in Communications and Public Relations and minoring in Broadcast Jounalism. She has prior experience as a Residential Advisor at her school as well as coaching Water Polo and Netball at Presbyterian Ladies College Sydney. Sophie also played on the New South Wales state Water Polo team and holds her Bronze Cross. This will be her first summer at Manitou.
Lorne Frilegh From Toronto, Ontario, Lorne is a student at the University of Guelph studying general Arts. Lorne has prior experience as a Teacher’s assistant at Forest Hill Elementary and Junior High and as an Assistant Coach with the North Toronto Baseball Association. Lorne has been playing in baseball leagues for over 13 years and also played high school football. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Jarred Garfinkle From Montreal, Quebec, Jarred is currently a student at Dawson College studying Health Science. Jarred is an avid Tennis player and Waterskier. In high school, he was also the editor of the newspaper and also holds his Bronze Medallion. Jarred was a Manitou camper for four years completing our CIT program in 2004. He returns for his third summer on staff and seventh summer at Manitou.
Davida Goldenberg From Toronto, Ontario, Davida is a student at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College working on a specialist degree in Art and Art History focusing on Photography and Drawing. Davida has previous camp experience working at Bayview Glen Day Camp, Camp Northland B’nai Brith and at Camp Poyntelle Lewis-Village in Pennsylvania. She has also volunteered as an instructor with the Kids For Kids Foundation. This will be Davida’s first summer at Manitou.
Chuck Gordon From Calgary, Alberta, Chuck is a student at the University of Victoria studying Economics. In high school, Chuck played varsity Football and Rugby and also captained his Hockey team. He also has experience coaching Tennis at the Varsity Tennis Club. Chuck was a Manitou camper for two years, completing our CIT program in 2004. He returns for his third summer on staff and fifth at Manitou.
Kristen Greenly From Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Kristen is a student at Albright College in Reading studying Psychology. Throughout high school, Kristen worked with her drama club building sets, doing prop design and back stage direction. She also played Field Hockey and Basketball. This will be Kristen’s first summer working at Manitou.
Ella Gruber From Toronto, Ontario, Ella is a student at the University of Toronto studying English and Music. During the year, Ella has served as the Social Chair, Public Relations Chair and Vice President of Event Planning for Pi Beta Phi Women’s Fraternity. She also has experience working one season as a counsellor at Camp Wabikon in Temagami and holds her Bronze Cross. She returns for her second summer at Manitou.
Jeremy Haber From Toronto, Ontario, Jeremy is a student at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. During the year, Jeremy plays club Volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee. He is also an avid Tennis player and has completed an instructor’s course. Jeremy was a Manitou camper for 4 years completing our CIT program in 2004. He returns for his third summer on staff and seventh at Manitou.
Jon Holoff From Toronto, Ontario, Jon is a student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He plays tennis and baseball competitively throughout the year and also holds his Bronze Medallion. Jonathan attended Manitou for the first time in 2002 completing our CIT program. He returns for his fourth year on staff and fifth year at Manitou.
Blake Hornsby From Kiama, Australia, Blake has been working for the past five years as a Duty Manager at Jamberoo Action Park while completing his degree in Spatial Science at Charles Stuart University. Blake holds his Surf Bronze cerification and has been an active Sunlife Saver for six years. He also competed at the state level in Field Hockey. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Tom Huntley From Lara, Australia, Tom is a student at Brougham Art School working towards a Diploma of Applied Photography. Previously, Tom completed an Advanced Diploma in Business Advertising through RMIT University. Tom has spent time this year working as a Photographer’s assistant and as a Leader at Camp Cooinda in January. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Dalia Kagan From Thornhill, Ontario, Dalia is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in London with a degree in English. Dalia has volunteer experience working at Baycrest Hospital for the Aged. She has been attending camps for several years, including two summers as a camper at Manitou. She completed our CIT program in 2002. Dalia returns for her fifth summer on staff and seventh at Manitou.
Brad Kaplin From Montreal, Quebec, Brad is a student at McGill University studying Engineering. Brad has been playing competitive Basketball for many years, including winning the Juvenile AAA Quebec Provincial Championship in 2005 and a winning a bronze medal at the World Maccabiah Games in Israel that same year. He also worked as a score keeper for the Jewish Alumni Basketball League for two years. This will be Brad’s second summer at Manitou.
Melissa Kendrick From St. Catharines, Ontario, Melissa is a student at Brock University in the Recreation and Leisure Studies program. Melissa has been working with the YMCA of Niagara for five years. She also has experience working with the City of St. Catharines Summer Camps and at the Lieutenant Governor Aboriginal Literacy Summer Camp in Neskantaga. Melissa was a competitive Basketball player for many years, winning a gold medal at the Provincial Championships. She also holds her NLS and YMCA Swimming Instructors certifications. This will be her first summer at Manitou.
Alan Kirby From Barrie, Ontario, Alan is a student at York University in Toronto studying English and Geography. Alan has worked as a Camp Counsellor, Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor with the YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka and holds his NLS, Swimming Instructors and ORCA Flatwater D certifications. He also has experience as an activity coordinator with Canada World Youth, assisting at an orphanage in Brazil. This will be Alan’s first summer at Manitou.
Remi Kirshenblatt From Toronto, Ontario, Remi is a student at the University of Western Ontario on London. Remi has worked as a Ski Instructor at Alpine Ski Club. She was a camper at Camp Shalom before becoming a Manitou camper for three years and completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be her third summer on staff and sixth at Manitou.
Sari Kraft From Thornhill, Ontario, Sari is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in London with a degree in Kinesiology. Sari is a certified fitness consultant and group fitness instructor and has worked as an athletic trainer with her school’s Women’s Rugby Team. She has also trained and competed in Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop Acrobatics and Lyrical Dance and is a member of the UWO Dance company. She has experience as an instructor at All That Dance and Camp Move ‘n Groove. Sari was a Manitou camper for six years and completed our CIT program in 2001. She returns for her fourth summer on staff and tenth summer at Manitou.
Maxime Lavigueur From Quebec City, Quebec, Maxime is a student at CEGEP de Ste-Foy studying Sciences. While in high school, Maxime was the captain of his Hockey team and also served a year as the school’s president. He is an avid waterskier, wakeboarder and surfer and holds his Bronze Medallion and PCO certification. Maxime was a Manitou camper for four years, completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be his third summer on staff and seventh at Manitou.
Stanley Lee From Toronto, Ontario, Stanley is a student at McMaster University in Hamilton studying Science. While at school this year, Stanley served as his residence floor rep. He was also heavily involved in his high school’s theatre program having taken vocal lessons and attending theatre camps when he was younger. Stanley also plays guitar and is a long time basketball player. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Lanny Lightman From Thornhill, Ontario, Lanny is a graduate of Thornlea S.S. Lanny has experience working as a teacher’s assistant for a Photography class and as a studio photographer for Lawblaws. She has also been actively involved in her school’s Theatre program having performed in a number of productions and worked for a year as a volunteer at Willowbrook Public School. Lanny was a Manitou camper for 3 years, completing our CIT program in 2004. She returns after a year away for her second summer on staff and fifth at Manitou.
Daniel Linden From Thornhill, Ontario, Daniel is a student at Seneca College in the Business program. During the year Daniel plays Hockey and coaches Basketball. He has also been sailing for many years including trips to Lake Ontario, the Thousand Islands and on the Atlantic Ocean. While racing Optis with the Island Yacht club in Toronto, he won the Best Sailor and Sportsmanship Awards. He holds his Bronze Medallion and has experience as an assistant Bowling coach. Daniel was a Manitou camper for five years, completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be his third summer on staff and eighth season at Manitou.
Angelique Lubomirof From Sydney, Australia, Angelique holds a diploma in Welfare as well as a Childcare certificate. She has worked in a childcare centre for two years and done placements in respite homes and women’s shelters. She has also studied Jazz, Ballet, Tap, and Hip Hop, run instructional programs for children and has had several years of Tennis instruction. This will be Angelique’s first summer at Manitou.
Mike MacLeod From Burlington, Ontario, Mike is a student at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia studying Sociology. Mike is also a graduate of the General Arts and Science program at Fanshawe college in London. Mike has played competitive Baseball and Football for many years, helping his Football team to the Halton Regional championship in 2002. Mike returns to Manitou for his second summer on staff.
Kara Martin From Sydney, Australia, Kara has been working as a Registered Nurse at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. She is a graduate of the University of New England with a degree in Nursing. Kara has 15 years dance experience in Tap, Jazz and Ballet as a performer and assistant teacher at Tutu, Tap & Turn and also has experience as a soccer coach and reading tutor. This will be Kara’s first summer at Manitou.
Hayley Mather From Melbourne, Australia, Hayley has been working this past year at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. She holds an Advanced Diploma of Tourism and a Diploma of Event Management studying at William Angliss Institute. Hayley has six year of Tennis training experience and has also worked as a Nanny. This will be her first summer on staff at Manitou.
Allie Nixon From Ancaster, Ontario, Allie is a student at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo studying Sociology and Geography. An avid golfer, Allie has worked in the golf industry for the past several summers. She is a member of Habitat for Humanity ad is highly involved in other volunteer organizations at her university. She also has experience as a volunteer at Ancaster meadow Elementary School. This will be her first summer at Manitou.
Eric Ormsby From Woodslee, Ontario, Eric is a student at Brock University in St.Catharines studying History and Political Science. Eric has past experience working at Basketball camps at Brock and at Belle River High School and was a member of the Brock University Men’s team. Eric also has extensive fishing experience and basic astronomy training. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Sarah Rabley From Niagara Falls, Ontario, Sarah is a student at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo studying Sociology and Biology. Sarah has experience working with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Niagara Falls and as a JUMP Ambassador at Laurier. Last summer she travelled to The Gambia in West Africa to volunteer in a hospital and teach at local schools. She also has many years experience playing competitive Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball. This will be Sarah’s first summer at Manitou.
Scott Rabley From Niagara Falls, Ontario, Scott is a student at McMaster University in Hamilton studying Engineering. Scott has many years of experience playing competitive Tennis at White Oaks and at St. Catherines Raquet and Athletic Club. He also has experience volunteering as a leader with SCOEP and at Kids Kastle day care program. This will be his first summer working at Manitou.
Erica Rivietz From Richmond Hill, Ontario, Erica is a student at York University studying Psychology. Erica currently volunteers with the TSX program tutoring kids. She also has experience as an assistant Hebrew Teacher with kindergarten kids at USDS and experience working with the Lodger Synagogue planning children’s activities. She was a Manitou camper for seven years, completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be her third summer on staff and tenth summer at Manitou.
Andrew Robertson From Burlington, Ontario, Andrew is a student at the University of Guelph studying Bio-Medical Science. Andrew previously spent several years living in Japan and worked for a year as a bus monitor with The American School. He was a competitive rep hockey player for seven years and also plays the guitar. This will be Andrew’s first summer at Manitou.
Tyler Ruetz From St. Catharines, Ontario, Tyler is a graduate of Niagara College’s Landscape Design program. Tyler has been working over the past year with the YMCA as a Youth Action and Program Leader. He has two years experience as a competitive rock climber and worked for a year at Higher Ground Climbing. He also holds his NLS and Swimming Instructor certifications. This will by Tyler’s first summer at Manitou.
Luke Schibeci From Wollongong, Australia, Luke is a student at the Wollongong University studying Medicine. Luke has experience working with children at Jamberoo Action Park and is also a Junior Rugby and Cricket Coach. Luke is an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, holds his Bronze Medallion and also plays guitar. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Jamie Shaw From Wimbledon, England, Jamie is a student at the University of Durham studying History and French. During the year, Jamie plays on his schools Field Hockey team and is a certified level 1 coach. He has experience as a Junior Coach with the Wimbledon Hockey Club and as a teaching assistant at St. Matthew’s Primary School. He is also played with the Wimbledon Club under 18 Tennis team and holds his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. This will be his first summer at Manitou
Carla Smallfield Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Carla is a student at York University in Toronto studying Kinesiology and Health Science. Carla is a member of York’s varsity Cheerleading team, is an NCCP level 1 coach in Cheerleading and Gymnastics and also teaches Aerobics and Yoga classes during the year. She has taught Dance and Gymnastics through Futures Gymnastics and has also worked as a dancer on TV and in music videos. This will be Carla’s third summer at Manitou.
Julie Steinberg Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Julie now lives in Boca Raton, Florida, and is a student of the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science and International Relations. During the year, Julie works as a beat reporter for her college newspaper and has appeared in the New York Times and Fox News. She was also a competitive tennis player for many years and a nationally ranked debator. Julie was a Manitou camper for three years, completing our CIT program in 2003. She returns for her third summer on staff and sixth at Manitou.
Robbie Stepak From Toronto, Ontario, Robbie is a student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia studying Commerce. Robbie has many year of camp experience at Camp White Pine including one summer on staff. Last summer he was on staff at Camp Timberlane. He also holds his Bronze Cross. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Jason Sterling From Toronto, Ontario, Jason is a student at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec studying Earth and Planetary Science. Jason has been a competitive Hockey player for many years, playing in tournaments in the U.S. and in Europe. He also has experience as a coach and referee. He spent one summer on staff at Camp Wahanowin. This will be Jason’s first summer at Manitou.
Jake Summers From Glen Haven, Nova Scotia, Jake is a student at Dalhousie University in Halifax studying Computer Science. Jake spent two years living on several different large boats sailing to nine different countries and territories. He also has experience working as a Hockey Linesman and is completing his Bronze Cross. This will be Jake’s first summer working at Manitou.
Corey Tarnow From Thornhill, Ontario, Corey is a student at the University of Toronto studying Sciences. Corey has been a competitive Hockey player for many years. He is also an avid Waterskier and Snowboarder. He holds his Bronze Cross and PCO card. A Manitou camper for two years, Corey completed our CIT program in 2000. He returns for his fifth summer on staff and seventh at Manitou.
Brian Thomson From Guildford, England, Brian has spent the past year living and working in Whistler, British Columbia. Previously, he spent three years living in Harrisonburg, Virginia working with Camp Horizons and The Outdoor Learning Centre as a Counsellor and Outdoor Education Facilitator. Brian is a graduate of the Broadwater School and holds his Red Cross Life Guard and Wilderness First Responder certifications. He returns for his second summer at Manitou.
Michael Thorpe From London, Ontario, Michael is a student at the University of Western Ontario studying Sociology. He previously completed a certificate in Human Services at Fanshawe College. An avid musician, Michael plays guitar, bass and drums playing in various venues around the London area. He also has experience as an Event Coordinator through the Big Brothers of London. This will be his first summer at Manitou.
Emily Weizel From Toronto, Ontario, Emily is a student at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec studying Science. Emily volunteers during the year in the physiotherapy department at the Royal Victoria Hospital. She also has experience as a member of her high school’s student council and volunteering as a mentor to underprivileged students at a local elementary school. She holds her Bronze Medallion and PCO card. Emily was a Manitou camper for three years completing our CIT program in 2003. She was named World Games Captain in 2006. This will be her fourth summer on staff and seventh at Manitou.
Kaila Wiley From Mississauga, Ontario, Kaila is a student at Brock University studying Kinesiology. During the year, Kaila plays on Brock’s Varsity Women’s Volleyball Team. Kaila attended the Ontario Educational Leadership Camp and volunteered as a counsellor at Brock University Volleyball Camp and with SNAP, a program for children with special needs. She also has experience as a Volleyball Referee, is completing a Kayaking skills course through the OCA and holds her Bronze Medallion. This will be Kaila’s first summer at Manitou.
Brittany Woodall From Sydney, Australia, Brittany is a graduate of Camden High School and completed her Certificate 3 in Business Administration at TAFE. She has recently been working with the Department of Housing and the Department of Primary Industries. Brittany is also an avid swimmer and snowboarder. This will be her first summer at Manitou.
