 | Stephanie Abramovich Activity Head | From Dundas, Ontario, Stephanie is a graduate of both the Pharmacy Technician and Small Business and Entrepreneurship programs at Mohawk College in addition to the Arts and Science program at Fanshawe College in London. While at Fanshawe, Stephanie played on their Varsity Women’s Basketball team. She has coaching experience with the Junior Varsity team at Parkside Highschool and with the Dundas Dynamo House League where she also worked as a summer camp counsellor for two seasons. She returns for her fourth summer at Manitou as Head of Basketball.

 | Sarah Amyotte Activity Head | From Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Sarah is a graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax studying Political Science and Journalism. During the year, Sarah serves as the Vice President of her school’s Arts and Social Sciences Society. She has worked for two years with the Dartmouth Sportsplex as a summer camp counsellor and Dance Instructor and for the Canadian Diabetes Association as a camp counsellor. Sarah has many years experience in Theatre and Dance having worked with the Neptune Theatre School’s Young Performance Company. She joins us for her third summer at Manitou and second as Head of Theatre.

 | Mark Arbus Activity Head | From Toronto, Ontario, Mark works as a teacher during the year at Churchill Public School. He holds his B.Ed. from the University of Ottawa and M.Ed. from Chapman University. An avid guitar player, Mark has written most of the songs and played lead guitar for bands such as "Mogul" and “Guitarbus.” He has many years of camp experience as a camper at Camp Winnebagoe in Huntsville as camper and staff at Camp White Pine in Haliburton and working in various leadership roles at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park. Mark returns after several years for his second summer at Manitou and first as Head of Rock Music.

 | Melanie Atkins Activity Head | Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Melanie now lives in London where she teaches Dance at Fanshawe College and Dance London. She is a graduate of Queens University in Kingston with a degree in Life Sciences and also has completed her A.R.C.T. Piano Performance with the Royal Conservatory. Melanie has past experience on staff at Lochearn Camp in Vermont, at Pickering College Summer ESL program in Newmarket and as a Residence Life staff member at Queens University. This will be her first summer at Manitou as Head of Dance.

 | Gillian Besco Activity Head | From Ottawa, Ontario, Gillian is a graduate of Queens University in Kingston with a degree in Mathamatics. During the year, Gillian is a Head Guard and Swim Instructor with City of Kingston and Queens Phys Ed Centre. She holds her NLS, WSI and Royal Life Examiners certifications and is also a certified First Aid instructor. She has previously attended and worked at camps in Quebec and Rhode Island as well as working as a Student Supervisor through the Enrichment Studies Unit at Queens. This will be Gillian’s second summer at Manitou and first as Head of Swim.

 | Acacia Betancourt Activity Head | Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Acacia has been working as a freelance Graphic Designer in San Diego, California. A graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in Studio Art and Graphic Design, Acacia also has prior experience as a counsellor and art instructor at Camp Romaca in Massachusetts. She also has worked as a childcare attendant at Gold’s Gym for three years and as a Math tutor. She returns for her fourth summer on staff at Manitou and third as Head of Creative Arts.

 | Rashida Bhaiji Activity Head | Originally from Nairobi, Kenya, Rashida grew up and lives currently in Calgary, Alberta and is completing a degree in Tourism Management at the University of Calgary. Rashida works during the year as a team leader for Child and Youth Friendly Calgary. She has pervious experience as a day camp counsellor with Cardel Place and Crowfoot YMCA and also spent time with the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program. This will be her second summer at Manitou and first as Head of Eco Adventure.

 | Benji Boudreau Activity Head | From Holland, Michigan, Benji is completing his degree in 2-D Art at Central Michigan University. Benji recently studied for a semester abrad travelling through Argentina, Peru and Chile where he volunteered as a Conversation Group Leader at the Universidad Austral. More recently he has taught a beginner Spanish course at CMU and was a Scene Shop Assistant building sets for the Theatre Department. This will be Benji’s first summer at Manitou as Head of Drawing & Painting.

 | Sophie Brauer Activity Head | From Carey Bay, Australia, Sophie has been working over the past year at the Rimrock Hotel in Banff, Alberta. She previously has worked as a Fitness Instructor at the Danielle Rees Genetics Fitness Club and holds a level 3 Fitness certificate. She has also had extensive training in Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary Dance and has worked towards instructor certification. This will be her first season at Manitou and first as Head of Yoga.

 | Matt Brundage Activity Head | From Toronto, Ontario, Matt is an English teacher at J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate. He holds his B Ed from York University, his BA from Trent University in Peterborough and completed a year of Theatre at George Brown College in Toronto. Matt worked several years professionally in theatre, as a part owner of Pudge Productions. Since then he has written and directed several plays including Manitou hits “Manitou: The Musical” along with its many sequels and “MacBeth, More or Less.” Matt returns for his eleventh season at Manitou and first as Head of Drama Inc.

 | Leigh Bryant Activity Head | Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Leigh grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, and has spent the year working in Toronto, Ontario with youth Drama programs and community events. She is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec with a degree in International Development and Religious Studies. After graduation, Leigh spent a year travelling and working in Japan. She has past experience as a ‘Floor Fellow’ supervisor in the McGill residence system and was involved in theatre programs for over 12 years, writing, acting and directing. She was also a national level Synchronized Swimmer, holding her NCCP level one coaching certification. In 2008, Leigh was named World Games Captain. She returns for her third summer at Manitou and first as Head of Radio & Media.

 | Warren Carmichael Activity Head | From Kingston, Ontario, Warren is a graduate of the Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program at Laurentian University in Sudbury. During the year, Warren has worked as a Residence Assistant and also runs his own rock band. Warren has several years experience taking leadership and training courses through the Gould Lake Outdoor Centre. He holds his ORCA certifications in Flatwater Instruction, Moving Water, Flatwater Kayak and Tripping level 2 as well as his NLS and Wilderness First Responder certifications. This will be Warren’s fourth summer at Manitou and first as Head of Canoe Tripping.

 | Ginger Derochie Activity Head | From Whitefish Falls, Ontario, Ginger works as a substitute teacher with the Rainbow District School Board. She holds a degree in Physical Eduation from Laurentian University in Sudbury, a B Ed from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and MA of Recreation Management from Acadia University in Nova Scotia. She also holds her level 2 Challenge Course Practitioner, Wilderness First Aid, Ski Instructors, Canoeing Instructors, Open Water Scuba Diving and NLS certifications. She has prior experience as the Director of Camp Ak-O-Mak, Director of Outdoor Education at YLCC and as an instructor at Bark Lake Outdoor Education Centre. She has also won multiple Canadian National Canoeing Championships. This will be her first summer at Manitou as Head of Ropes & Climbing.

 | Matthew Freder Activity Head | From Motnreal, Quebec, Matthew is a student at McGill University studying Mechanical Engineering. He has been a keen waterskiier for many years and holds his NLS and WSI certifications in addition to his PCO card. He is also an NCCP level 1 Downhill Skiing coach. Matt was a Manitou camper for three summers, completing our CIT program in 2003. This will be his sixth summer on staff and second as Head of Waterskiing & Wakeboarding.

 | Emilie Gelinas Activity Head | From Sarnia, Ontario, Emilie is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Geography. Emilie has played volleyball for many years and was captain of her high school’s varsity team. She currently volunteers during the year as a Reading Tutor. This will be Emilie’s second summer at Manitou as Head of Volleyball.

 | Dani Klein Activity Head | From Toronto, Ontario, Dani is a student at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts working towards a Masters degree in Children’s Literature. She is previously a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in English. Dani has worked with children as a Drama coach, as a belayer with the Toronto Climbing Academy and as a private Nanny. She also has experience working as an instructor with the Climbing Club at the University of Guelph and holds her CUI Level 2 ropes certification. In 2007 Dani was named World Games Captain. Dani returns for her eighth season on staff at Manitou and first as Head of Adventure Park.

 | Lisa Lang Activity Head | From Oakville, Ontario, Lisa has spent much of the past two years travelling through India and Asia, and also working as the Assistant Director of our Off-season Groups program. She is a graduate of the Outdoor Pursuits program at the University of Calgary in Alberta and has worked as a group leader and lifeguard in several camp settings. She is trained in lead climbing, multipitch, top roping, ropes safety & rescue, and alpine and glacier travel in the Rocky Mountains and has experience teaching a University level rock-climbing course. She holds her Level 2 swift water rescue certification, is an ARCA certified Class 1 river instructor and holds her NLS. She also completed the LIT program at Camp Madeba and holds her RCM grade 10 level in piano. In 2005, she was named World Games Captain. Lisa returns for her seventh summer on staff at Manitou and second as Head of Canoe & Kayak.

 | Julia Lurie Activity Head | From Surrey in the United Kingdom, Julia is a student at Leeds University studying Fashion Design. During the year, Julia is an avid participant in Aerobics and Yoga classes and has had experience developing her own work out routines. She also has extensive training in drawing design and sewing. She also worked for a season with Rockley Watersports here where she ran children’s programs and games. This will be her first summer at Manitou.

 | Taimi Lynch Activity Head | Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Taimi now lives in Toronto and is a graduate of the University of Guelph with a degree in Child Studies. Taimi also has a diploma in Early Childhood Education through Humber College. During the year, Taimi works part time with the Hospital for Sick Children. She has previous experience doing placements with the Sunburst Children’s Centre and at the Hydro Bright Lights Childcare Centre. She also volunteered as a Camp Counsellor with the Summer Institute for Kids. This will be her third summer at Manitou as Head of Crafts & Design.

 | Mike MacLeod Activity Head | From Burlington, Ontario, Mike is a graduate of St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a degree in Psychology and English. Mike is also a graduate of the General Arts and Science program at Fanshawe college in London. Mike has played competitive Baseball and Football for many years, helping his Football team to the Halton Regional championship in 2002. Mike returns to Manitou for his second summer on staff and second as Head of Land Sports.

 | Lauren Markowski Activity Head | From Kingston, Ontario, Lauren is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in London with a degree in Visual Arts. Lauren has experience as a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor with Progress Fitness and Aquatics Centre, the Kingston YMCA and Varty Lake Swim Program. After taking many courses through the Gould Lake Outdoor Centre travelling through Algonquin Park, the Adirondacks and James Bay, she holds her OCRA Tripping 2, Flatwater Instructor and Moving Water 1A certifications, along with her Wilderness First Aid, NLS and Swimming Instructor certifications. This will be Lauren’s fourth summer at Manitou and first as Head of Pottery.

 | Mariana Matos Activity Head | From Santos, Brazil, Mariana has spent the past year working as a Photographer for Princes Cruses. A graduate of Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing with a Masters degree in Communication and Advertising, Mariana also studied Photography post graduation aT Senac and Photo Design at Miami Advertising School. She has many years experience working as a freelance photographer and has also volunteered as a summer English Teacher at Favela da Rocinha. This will be her first summer at Manitou as Head of Photography.

 | Russ Piva Activity Head | From Milton, Ontario, Russ is a graduate of Wilfred Laurier University with an honours degree in Communications and minor in Geography. Russ has been playing competitive baseball for over 13 years with the Georgetown Eagles and has coached with the Georgetown Baseball Association. Previously, Russ received rave reviews for his show “The Rock Block” on RadioLaurier.com. He also plays guitar and bass and has experience writing, recording and performing his music. This will be Russ’ second summer at Manitou and first as Head of Baseball.

 | Mike Primak Activity Head | From Oakville, Ontario, Mike is a graduate of the Outdoor Adventure Leadership program at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Mike has Canoe Tripping experience in Temagami, Killarney, Algonquin Park and on the French River and holds his ORCA Level 1 Flatwater, Wilderness Survival Skills, Wilderness First Responder, NLS and Swimming Instructors certifications. He also has experience as a counsellor at Ways of the Woods Day Camp and at Kamp Kiwanis and plays the Guitar and Cello. This will be Mike’s second summer at Manitou and first as Head of Guitar.

 | Aoife Raftery Activity Head | From Dublin, Ireland, Aoife is a student at Trinity College Dublin studying Management Science and Information Systems. Aoife has been an avid sailor for eight years and has taught the past four summers at Courtown Sailing Club holding her ISA Senior Instructor, Dinghy Instructor and Powerboat Instructor certifications as well as her Bronze Cross. She also has experience as an Activity Instructor at Gartan Outdoor Education centre and has played competitive Field Hockey for 10 years. This will be Aoife’s second summer at Manitou as Head of Sailing.

 | Benjamin Rice Activity Head | From London, Ontario, Benjamin is a student at Laurentian University in Sudbury studying English. Benjamin has previous experience working as a Sports Camp counsellor with the Boys and Girls Club of London, as a Ski Instructor in Whistler/Blackcomb and at golf courses and driving ranges over several years. A competitive Rugby player for 10 years, Benjamin won a silver medal with Team Ontario. He also completed Sparrow Lake Camp’s CIT program and has his own radio show on CKLU FM. This will be Benjamin’s second summer at Manitou as Head of Golf.

 | Karen Shopsowitz Activity Head | From Toronto, Ontario, Karen has worked on numerous television productions as a director, editor and writer, over the past 15 years. Her recent credits include series producer, director and co-editor of the three part series, Canada’s War in Colour, which aired on CBC (and for which she received a Gemini nomination), and My Father’s Camera, produced by the National Film Board of Canada, which was screened at several film festivals, and which was awarded the prestigious Peabody Award. Karen also works as a cameraperson, and is currently developing a dramatic series for television. She returns for her fifth summer at Manitou as Head of Video Production.

 | Jose Vidal Activity Head | Originally from the Dominical Republic, Jose has been working most recently as a Tennis Coach at a resort in Turks and Caicos. Earlier in the year, he was travelling to different parts of Ontario promoting his No Stress Tennis program. He has past experience working in the Players Edge Tennis Program at York University and Tennis Canada as well as teaching tennis at the University of Toronto. He has also been the Head Tennis Coach of the Dominican Tennis Federation and at Independent Lake Camp and Lake Greeley Camp in Pennsylvania. This will be Jose’s first summer at Manitou as Head of Tennis.

 | Jay Wengle Activity Head | From Thornhill, Ontario, Jay works a teacher at the York Centre. He holds a degree in Education from OISE, specializing in Health and Physical Education, a degree in science from the University of Guelph and also spent two years studying Medicine in Australia. His past experience includes teaching at Richmond Hill High School and a Health course at York University. He has also developed Health curriculum with Right to Play, with the royal family of Dubai and managed a research study for overweight teens at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. From this study, Jay co-authored the book Getting a Healthy Weight for your Child. Jay has worked at Manitou for eleven seasons, including ten as a Unit Head. He returns for his 12th season at camp and first as Head of Greenhouse.

 | Daniel Westenenk Activity Head | From North Bay, Ontario, Daniel is a graduate of Laurentian University in Sudbury with a degree in Jazz Guitar. Daniel worked for the three seasons as a Guitar instructor with Guitar Clinic and has also worked four summers as a carpenter’s assistant with the City of North Bay’s Parks and Recreation department. This will be his second summer at Manitou and first as Head of Woodworking.

 | Craig Banks Admin/Support | From Wigan in the United Kingdom, Craig is a graduate of Liverpool University with a degree in Computer Technology. Since graduating, Craig has worked in a number of jobs from Administrative to Food Service. He has past experience as a member of the Scouts program and was on his school’s Rugby team. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

 | Erica Barnes Admin/Support | From Oakville, Ontario, Erica is a student at McMaster University in Hamilton studying Civil Engineering. She was recently selected to serve as President of her school’s Engineers Without Borders chapter and spent last summer working with the Malawi Freshwater Project in Africa. A former Tanamakoon staff member in Algonquin Park, Erica also has taken courses in Photography, Pottery, Drawing and Printmaking and also with Outward Bound. She holds her NLS, WSI and Wilderness First Aid certifications. Erica returns after several seasons for her second summer on staff at Manitou.

 | Glen Crossman Admin/Support | From Parry Sound, Ontario, Glen has recently shut down his own business to come and work for Manitou on a full-time basis. Glen has years of experience working with building foundations, excavations, plumbing, electrical and landscaping work. He returns for his fifth year on staff.

 | Aliza Devenyi Admin/Support | From Toronto, Ontario, Aliza is a student at Metropolitan Preparatory Academy. Aliza holds her Bronze Cross certification. A Manitou camper for nine years, she completed our CIT program in 2008. This will be her first summer on staff.

 | Holly Dixon Admin/Support | From Perth, Australia, Holly currently works as a Radiology Nurse at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. She is a graduate of Edith Cowan University with a degree in Nursing. Holly also has experience working as a Swimming Instructor with Beatty Park Leisure Centre and coaching lacrosse with the Subiaco Lacrosse Club. She holds her Bronze Medallion and WSI certifications. This will be Holly’s first summer at Manitou.

 | Jeremy Friedman Admin/Support | Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Jeremy completed medical school there in 1985 and moved to Toronto, Ontario shortly after. He specialized in paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto from 1990 to 1994, since then he has been on staff at the hospital as the Director of Inpatient Paediatric Medicine. He is also the author of the 2nd edition of the bestselling book The 3 AM Handbook: The most commonly asked questions about your child's health. He returns for his sixth summer at Manitou.

 | Dan Galley Admin/Support | From Dunchurch, Ontario, Dan works during the year as a self-employed forester in the Parry Sound area and is also an avid Animal Rights activist. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Forestry. Dan returns for his seventh season at Manitou.

 | Zvi Gorlick Admin/Support | From Toronto, Ontario, Zvi has practiced Family Medicine in Toronto for over 20 years. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Medical School. He also volunteers as a house league hockey coach during the year. He returns for his ninth year at Manitou.

 | Kristina Huber Admin/Support | From Montreal, Quebec, Kristina is a student at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia studying Nursing. Kristina has worked as a Nurse’s Aid at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal and as a counsellor at Camp Rosey in Rolle, Switzerland teaching tennis and soccer. She also has volunteered with the Rogers Cup tournament in Montreal and participated in a service learning project in Cuernavaca, Mexico. This will be her first summer at Manitou.

 | Dennis Jeffrey Admin/Support | From Parry Sound, Ontario, Dennis has been part of the maintenance team with us and at the Inn at Manitou for many years. We estimate that Dennis’ Manitou experience now exceeds 25 seasons making him easily the longest serving member of the Manitou staff team.

She has been attending camps for several years, including two summers as a camper at Manitou. She completed our CIT program in 2002. He perused post-graduate studies in Toronto and London and now practices Family and Urgent Care Medicine in Toronto.  | Anna Bowers Counsellor | From Kitchener, Ontario, Anna is a student at the University of Waterloo studying Psychology. She has been playing tennis for six years with the Northfield Racquet Club, has taught at various workshops and camps and competed with her school team through high school. She also has experience as a Children’s Bereavement Group Leader and as a Program Volunteer with Creekside Church. This will be Anna’s first summer at Manitou.

She also has experience as a competitive dancer and cheerleader while she was in high school. This will be Erin’s first summer at Manitou.

She has past experience as volunteer Teaching Assistant at the Caledon Art Studio, running her own Drama Camp and has previous camp experience at Teopoli and Mini-yo-we. This will be Leanna’s first summer at Manitou.

 | Miranda Chartrand Counsellor | From Guelph, Ontario, Miranda is a graduate of John F. Ross CVI. During the year, Miranda plays, refs and coaches rugby.  | Oren Falkovitz Activity Head | From Thornhill, Ontario, Oren is a graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa with a degree in Film and of Seneca College with a diploma in Marketing. During the year, Oren teaches Dance at the Studio School of Dance. He has previously taught at the Greta Leeming Studio of Dance and has extensive Dance experience. He is also a certified Soccer referee and worked for four summers as an official with the Thornhill Soccer League. Oren returns for his third summer at Manitou and first as Head of Soccer.

 | Jason Freder Counsellor | From Montreal, Quebec, Jason is a student at McGill University studying Social Work. During the year Jason competes for McGill’s Alpine Ski team in slalom and giant slalom. He has experience working with developmentally disables adults at the Creative Arts Therapy Centre at Concordia University and has previously been heavily involved in volunteer activities, including working with the 100K cycle and with Kids on the Block and the Shriner’s Hospital. Jason is also an avid waterskier and holds his Bronze Cross. A Manitou camper for five years, he completed our CIT program in 2005. This will be his fourth summer on staff and ninth summer at Manitou.

During the year, Brittany competes with McMasters Varsity Cheerleading team and volunteers with Best Buddies. She holds Level 1 coaching certifications in gymnastics and snowboarding and completed the CWSIC as a waterskiing instructor. She has also umpired with North Toronto Baseball, danced competitively for over 10 years and holds her Bronze Medallion and PCO card. Brittany’s past camp experience includes completing the CIT program at Camp Biluim. This will be her third summer at Manitou.

 | Spencer Hoffman Counsellor | From Toronto, Ontario, Spencer is a student in the Ivey AGO program at the University of Western Ontario in London. During the year, Spencer serves as the Philanthropy chair of his fraternity and sits on Western Hillel’s executive council. Formerly, Spencer competed in DECA and served as a student retreat leader. He plays hockey, softball and rugby and has coaching experience with a select minor hockey team. He also holds his Bronze Cross and CPO card. He has experience as a free lance small scale Video Producer and has also volunteered as a Computers Instructor at USDS. He is an avid skier and snowboarder and holds his Bronze Medallion.  | Luis Arevalo Recalde Program Specialist | From Pasto Narino, Colombia, Luis works as a full time music teacher. He has studied Music, Architecture and German Language and also plays with his own band, having experience with guitar, keyboards and drums. A regular volunteer with the YMCA in Colombia, Luis also has camp experience in the United States at Camp Woodhaven and the Cambridge School of Weston Summer Day Camp, both in Massachusetts. He joins us for his third summer at Manitou.

 | Jen Claessens Program Specialist | From Campbellville, Ontario, Jen has recently returned from Australia where she completed her B Ed at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She is also a graduate of Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo with a degree in Geography. Jen was a competitive swimmer for 14 years and captained Laurier’s Varsity Women’s team in her final year. She holds her NLS and WSI certifications and worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor with the town of Milton for three years. This will be her fourth summer at Manitou.

Keirstyn has previous camp experience working as a counsellor for two years at Camp Olalondo near London. She has also taken numerous Visual Arts programs, was the captain of her high school Swim team and hold her Bronze Medallion and Wilderness First Aid certification. This will be Keirstyn’s third summer at Manitou.

 | Erica Everett Program Specialist | From Waterdown, Ontario, Erica is a student in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership program at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Through this program, Erica has been out on many canoe trips and holds her Bronze Cross and Wilderness First Aid certifications. She also has past experience as the Head Counsellor at Sun Camp at Farendale Farms and was captain of her team as a member of the Burlington Youth Soccer Club. This will be Erica’s first season at Manitou.

 | Tom Huntley Program Specialist | From Lara, Australia, Tom has spent the past year working as a ship Photographer with Princess Cruises. Tom is a graduate of Brougham Art School with a Diploma of Applied Photography. Tom also completed an Advanced Diploma in Business Advertising through RMIT University. He previously worked as a Photographer for Coast Mountain Photography in Whistler, British Columbia and as a Leader at Camp Cooinda. This will be his third summer at Manitou.

 | Ben Kim Program Specialist | Originally from Geoje, South Korea, Ben is a student at the University of Calgary working towards a Masters degree in Music Composition. He is previously a graduate of Grimmel College in Iowa with a combined degree in Biology and Music. Ben has extensive experience working as a director, music director, rehearsal pianist, accompanist, and conductor for a range of musical theatre and operatic productions. He is also a member of the University of Calgary Chamber Choir. He has previous camp experience as an English Instructor at Global Rookie Club camp in Korea. This will be Ben’s first summer at Manitou.

 | Callum Labonte Program Specialist | From St. Catharines, Ontario, Callum is a student at Brock University studying History. Callum has past experience working as a Karate instructor with Seido Kan Karate School and Camp and also coached in the Concord Soccer League. He also has experience in set design and construction, working in carpentry and plays bass guitar. This will be Callum’s first summer at Manitou.

 | Brent Lancaster Program Specialist | Originally from Ojai, California, more recently Brent has been living and working as a substitute teacher in Seattle, Washington. Brent is a graduate of the University of California, Berkley with a degree in Rhetoric. He also spent semesters studying at La Sorbonne in Paris and at the University of Kyoto in Japan. Brent was a competitive tennis player for many years, playing varsity in high school, taking an advanced college clinic and teaching summer programs at the Ojai Valley Raquet Club. He also has experience working as a Precinct Captain for the Barack Obama Campaign in Austin, Texas as well as working on a local congressional campaign. This will be Brent’s first summer at Manitou.

 | Maxime Lavigueur Program Specialist | From Quebec City, Quebec, Maxime is a student at Laval University studying Mechanical Engineering. While in high school, Maxime was the captain of his Hockey team and also served a year as the school’s president. He is an avid waterskier, wakeboarder and surfer and spent last summer doing all three in Scotland, France and throughout Europe. He holds his Bronze Medallion and PCO certification. Maxime was a Manitou camper for four years, completing our CIT program in 2004. This will be his fourth summer on staff and eighth at Manitou.

 | Zack Lerner Program Specialist | From Woodstock, New York, Zack has spent the year working in New York City. He is a graduate of the Studio Art program at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. Zack has experience working in the college’s Art Department as a research assistant and has had many of his own studio pieces displayed on campus. He also has experience DJing at WVKR and as a leader with the Vasser College Outing Club. In 2006, Zach was named World Games Captain. He returns after several seasons away for his third summer at Manitou.

He is a graduate of the Fleming College Firefighter Training program and holds national qualifications in firefighting and other specialized rescue certifications. He also completed the Katimavik program taking him to many locations across Canada as a volunteer. He is an avid guitar player and holds his NLS. This will be his first summer at Manitou.

He holds his ORCA level 1 Flatwater, Canoe Tripper, Wilderness First Responder and Bronze Cross certifications. He has past experience as an NHE Assistant at Sandbanks Provincial Park. He was also a competitive swimmer for 14 years competing on the Laurentian varsity team and a level 2 community soccer coach. This will be Darcy’s first season at Manitou.

During the year, Landon works as a Hockey Instructor with the Forest Hill Hockey Organization and has played hockey for many years. He completed the CIT program at Camp Timberlane and holds his Bronze Medallion. A Manitou camper for six years, Landon returns after a couple of seasons away for his first year on staff.

 | Christine Barbaro Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, Christine has recently returned to school to complete the Social Service Worker program at George Brown College. She is also graduate of the University of Waterloo with a degree in Sociology. Previously Christine worked for over five years as a Brand Manager in the health food industry and has also worked with and attended various leadership workshops and is a certified climbing instructor. Christine was named World Games Captain in 1999 and has worked at Manitou as a counsellor, Unit Head and Activity Head. This is her eleventh season on staff and fifth as CIT Coordinator.

 | Michael Chan Unit Heads/Directors | From Tecumseh, Ontario, Mike has been works as a Sporting Goods Sales Rep in Windsor. He is a graduate of the University of Windsor with a degree in Communications. Mike has been an avid golfer for many years and has also played competitive soccer, football and hockey. He has worked as a baseball umpire and soccer referee. Michael has also been involved in the Scouts Organization having earned his Chief Scout’s Award. He returns for his fifth season at Manitou and shifts from Sophomore Unit for his first summer as Junior Boys Unit Head.

 | Mark Diamond Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, Mark works full-time as Owner and Director in Manitou’s winter office. Mark is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in London with a degree in Law. Mark worked professionally as a Lawyer, Real Estate Developer and Internet Service Provider before realizing his lifelong dream of owning a camp and purchasing Camp Manitou in 1999 with his partner Jeff Wilson. He grew up at Camp White Pine near Haliburton and is now a Fellow in the Society of Camp Director and an active volunteer with the Ontario Camping Association. In addition to sitting on their board of directors, Mark has chaired the OCA’s Water Standards Task Force and more recently their Standards review Task Force. Mark also sits on the board of Ve’ahavta and has been heavily involved in various other community organizations. This will be his 11th summer at Manitou.

 | Markus Fehr Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, Markus works full-time in Manitou’s winter office. A graduate of McMaster University with a degree in History, Markus has since been invited to speak on Camp Leadership at camping conferences throughout Ontario and also taught a semester at Centennial College in Toronto. During the year, Markus is a Fellow in the Society of Camp Directors, an active volunteer with the Ontario Camping Association, the Vice President of the Liberal Riding Association in Willowdale and has performed semi-professionally as a singer/songwriter. He has a lifetime of camp experience including 10 seasons at Onondaga Camp, holds his Bronze Cross and received the OCA’s Ron Johnstone Youth Leadership Award in 2000. Markus has worked at Manitou as Unit Head, CIT Coordinator, Program Director and is currently the Assistant Director focussing on staffing and leadership development. This will be his 13th summer at Manitou.

 | Sandy Foster Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario Sandy works as a teacher in the Recreation and Leisure Services program at Centennial College. During the year Sandy has extensive experience volunteering as a Hockey Coach and leading School Theatre programs. Sandy is renown through the Camping industry after working in leadership positions at day and residential camp programs for over 30 years including Camp White Pine, Camp Walden, Arrowhead Day Camp and Zodiac Day Camp. He has sat on several boards and spoken at conferences and events across Ontario. This will be Sandy’s tenth season at Manitou as Activity Director focusing on leadership of our daily activity program.

 | Meaghan Frauts Unit Heads/Directors | Originally from Uxbridge, Ontario, Meaghan is a graduate student at York University in Toronto in the International Development program. She holds a Masters degree in English Literature from Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo and a degree from University of Western Ontario in London where she was presented with the AUCC Award and the UWO Go Global Award for contribution to International Study. She has past working experience as a freelance Strategic Planner and has trained in swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, ice hockey, waterskiing, yoga and is also a marathon runner. She has prior camp experience at Camp Olympia and Canadian Adventure Camp. Meaghan returns for her fourth summer at Manitou and second as Senior Girls Unit Head.

 | Denise (Mama D) Greenwood-George Unit Heads/Directors | Originally from Midland, Ontario, Denise now lives with her family near Parry Sound where she has been working part time with the YMCA. She is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a degree in Social Development Studies and from Centennial College in Toronto with a diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services. Denise has past experience teaching outdoor education at Mentor College and coordinating groups through the offseason at Camp George. She has also coached varsity Girls Basketball teams at high schools in Toronto and Parry Sound. Denise has worked at Manitou as a counsellor, Activity Head, Unit Head, Administrative Director and is currently an Associate Director focusing on residential life and camper issues. In 1998, she was named World Games captain. This will be her 12th summer at Manitou.

 | Jocelyn Jeffrey Unit Heads/Directors | From Belle River, Ontario, Jocelyn has spent the past several months travelling through Southeast Asia. Jocelyn is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a Masters degree in English Literature and of the University of Windsor with a degree in English Language and Literature. Jocelyn has played on varsity, rep and house league soccer teams for over 16 years. She also has experience working as a tutor through Belle River Public School and has been a classroom volunteer. In 2007, Jocelyn was named World Games Captain. This will be her fourth summer at Manitou and first as Freshkids Unit Head.

 | Brad Kaplin Unit Heads/Directors | From Montreal, Quebec, Brad is a graduate of McGill University with a degree in Engineering. Brad has played competitive Basketball for many years, including winning the Juvenile AAA Quebec Provincial Championship in 2005 and a winning a bronze medal at the World Maccabiah Games in Israel that same year. He also has coached at the YM-YWCA and at the JCC in Montreal and worked as a score keeper for the Jewish Alumni Basketball League for two years. This will be Brad’s third summer at Manitou and first as Sophomore Boys Unit Head.

 | Mike Levinsky Unit Heads/Directors | Originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, Mike now lives with his family in Toronto where he works as a Drama and Language Arts Teacher at Leo Baeck Day School. During the year, Mike is heavily involved with his school’s Theatre program and this summer will be representing Canada playing Basketball at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. Mike grew up at Camp White Pine near Haliburton, eventually working as their Program Director. He also worked one season at Bayview Glen Day Camp as Program Director. This will be Mike’s seventh summer at Manitou as Program Director focusing on special events and camp wide programming.

 | Chris McKibbin Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, Chris is a Special Education teacher at Highland Heights Public School. Chris holds a degree in Education from OISE in Toronto and a degree in Sociology from the University of Guelph. He also spent several months in an immersion program in Trios Pistoles, Quebec. He has experience counselling at a North York day camp as well as coaching house league hockey and little league softball. Chris was named World Games captain in 2001. He returns for his tenth season on staff at Manitou as our Activity Coordinator.

 | Jen Murdock Unit Heads/Directors | Originally from St. Albert, Alberta, Jen now lives in Toronto where she works full-time in Manitou’s winter office. She is a graduate of the University of Guelph with a degree in Economics and Mathematics and is also a certified Fitness Instructor. During the year Jen trains as a marathon runner, has worked as a Math Tutor and volunteered with the Ontario Camping Association. She also spent a year working as a Residence Advisor while at school. Jen has worked at Manitou as an Activity Head and Unit Head and is currently the Administrative Director focusing on office and business administration. In 2001, Jen was named World Games Captain. This will be her ninth summer at Manitou.

 | Dan Scratch Unit Heads/Directors | From Tecumseh, Ontario, Dan has been working in various positions and living in London over the past year. He is a graduate of D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York with a degree in Education and of the University of Windsor with a degree in History and Communications. Dan has experience as a High School Baseball and Atom Hockey coach. In 2005, Dan was names World Games Captain. He returns for his sixth summer at Manitou and his second as Senior Boys Unit Head.

 | David (Luigi) Sheffe Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, David works full-time between Manitou’s winter office and managing Spring and Fall groups in addition to the general facility on site from April to October. David is a graduate of York University and the Recreation and Leisure Services Program at Centennial College. More recently, David has taught for a year at Bond College and taught part time in the Recreation program at Centennial College. He is also an active volunteer with the Ontario Camping Association. In camping throughout his life, David grew up at Camp Northland near Haliburton, then worked in Youth Outreach for the Town of Markham and Directed Vaughn Summer Day Camps. He also holds his NLS and is a certified water systems technician. David has worked at Manitou as Unit Head, CIT Coordinator, Program Director and is currently the Associate Director focusing on facility development and waterfront safety. This will be his 11th summer at Manitou.

 | Julia Strauss Unit Heads/Directors | From Petersburg, Ontario, Julia is a student at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay in the Outdoor Education program. She previously has studied Psychology at Wilfred Laurier University and at Conestoga College. She has worked for the City of Waterloo and as a floor rep in her school residence. She also has experience working as a counsellor and Lead Youth Coordinator at Maryhill Summer Camp and as an assistant coach in the Kitchener-Waterloo Baseball League. She was a CIT at Sports World Day Camp in 1999 and holds her Bronze Medallion. Julia returns for her fifth season on staff and third as Sophomore Girls Unit Head.

 | Emily Weizel Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, Emily is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec with a degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology. Emily works during the year at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal doing research in HIV/AIDS and is on the editorial board of the McGill Science Undergraduate Research Journal. She also has volunteered with Apathy is Boring, and with the physiotherapy department at the Royal Victoria Hospital. She has experience as a member of her high school’s student council and volunteering as a mentor to underprivileged students at a local elementary school. She holds her Bronze Medallion and PCO card. Emily was a Manitou camper for three years completing our CIT program in 2003. She was named World Games Captain in 2006. This will be her sixth summer on staff and first as Junior Girls Unit Head.

 | Jeff Wilson Unit Heads/Directors | From Toronto, Ontario, Jeff works full-time as Owner and Director in Manitou’s winter office. Jeff studied Photography at Sheridan College and worked briefly as a Travel Agent, but truly has devoted his life to Camping. After growing up at Camp White Pine near Haliburton and spending almost 10 years as their full-time Program Director. Jeff went on to join the Ownership/Director team at Camp Tamakwa in Algonquin Park before joining with his partner Mark Diamond to purchase Camp Manitou in 1999. A Fellow in the Society of Camp Directors, Jeff also has many years experience working with the Ontario Camping Association and has been invited to speak at their annual conference on many occasions. This will be his 11th summer at Manitou.
