Gord Anderson
Admin
Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Gord now lives in Toronto, Ontario where he has been working and taking courses through Ryerson University. Gord is a graduate of Bemidji State University in Minnesota with a Science degree. He played Division II NCAA baseball while at school, and has had coaching experience including a position as Assistant Coach of the York University Men’s Varsity Team. In 2002, Gord was named World Games captain. This will be his eleventh summer at Manitou.
Jessica Anderson

From Toronto, Ontario, Jessica is a graduate of the Recreation and Leisure Services program at Centennial College. Jessica has past work experience with organizations including Arowhon Pines Resort and with the Sports Clubs of Canada. She also volunteers as a Brownie leader and has camp experience completing the CIT program at Glen Bernard Camp in Sundridge. This will be Jessica’s first summer at Manitou.
Glen Crossman

From Parry Sound, Ontario, Glen has recently shut down his own business to come and work for Manitou on a full-time basis. Glen has years of experience working with building foundations, excavations, plumbing, electrical and landscaping work. He returns for his seventh year on staff at Manitou.
Barbara Deck

From Toronto, Ontario, Barb is a Nursing student at Ryerson University. She has completed clinical placements at Toronto Western Hospital, at Toronto General Hospital and at the Hospital for Sick Children. She has previous experience organizing First Aid at a day camp in Toronto and was the co-host of “Wired for Sound” at CKLN Radio. This will be Barb’s second summer at Manitou.
Rosemary Demirkok

From Toronto, Ontario, Rosemary is a graduate of the Nursing program at Ryerson University specializing in paediatrics. Through her program, Rosemary has completed clinical rotations at the Hospital for Sick Children in the Rheumatology, Nutrition, Endocrinology and Multi-organ Transplant units and aided in research development. This will be Rosemary’s first summer at Manitou.
Hilary Dickson

From Cobourg, Ontario, Hilary is a student in the nursing program at the University of Western Ontario in London. Hilary has past experience volunteering at Samaritan Village Orphanage in Tanzania. She previously was involved in her school’s environmental Action Team, Fashion Show and theatre productions. She is also a certified Yoga instructor. This will be Hilary’s first summer at Manitou.
Jeremy Friedman

Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Jeremy completed medical school there in 1985 and moved to Toronto, Ontario shortly after. He specialized in paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto from 1990 to 1994, since then he has been on staff at the hospital as the Director of Inpatient Paediatric Medicine. He is also the author of the 2nd edition of the bestselling book The 3 AM Handbook: The most commonly asked questions about your child's health. He returns for his eighth summer at Manitou.
Dan Galley

From Dunchurch, Ontario, Dan works during the year as a self-employed forester in the Parry Sound area and is also an avid Animal Rights activist. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree in Forestry. Dan returns for his ninth season at Manitou.
Zvi Gorlick

From Toronto, Ontario, Zvi has practiced Family Medicine in Toronto for over 20 years. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Medical School. He also volunteers as a house league hockey coach during the year. He returns for his 11th year at Manitou.
Josh Goswell

From Wilmslow, United Kingdom, Josh has lived in France and the United States and has spent the past year travelling and working at hotels to finance his travels. He will be attending Durham University to study Chemistry. Josh is also an avid rower. This will be Josh’s first summer at Manitou.
Dennis Jeffrey

From Parry Sound, Ontario, Dennis has been part of the maintenance team with us and at the Inn at Manitou for many years. We estimate that Dennis’ Manitou experience now exceeds 27 seasons making him easily the longest serving member of the Manitou staff team.
Lisa Lang

From Oakville, Ontario, Lisa is a student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver working towards her Masters of Landscape Architecture. She is a graduate of the Outdoor Pursuits program at the University of Calgary in Alberta and has worked as a group leader and lifeguard in several camp settings. She is trained in lead climbing, multipitch, top roping, ropes safety & rescue, and alpine and glacier travel in the Rocky Mountains and has experience teaching a University level rock-climbing course. She holds her Level 2 swift water rescue certification, is an ARCA certified Class 1 river instructor and holds her NLS. She also completed the LIT program at Camp Madeba and holds her RCM grade 10 level in piano and has traveled extensively through India and Asia. In 2005, she was named World Games Captain. Lisa returns for her ninth summer on staff at Manitou.
Ricky Leighton

Originally from Zimbabew, Ricky now lives in Scotland and is a graduate of Napier University in Edinburgh with a degree in Accounting. He has past experience teaching at a local children’s theatre school and is an avid cricket player. This will be Ricky’s second summer at Manitou.
Sarah Lever

From Unionville, Ontario, Sarah is a student at the University of Western Ontario in London studying Science. Sarah has past volunteer experience with the Canadian Cancer Society and Epilepsy Toronto. She also spends time playing guitar and pursuing photography. A Manitou camper for eight years, Sarah completed out CIT program in 2007. This will be her fourth summer on staff and 12th at Manitou.
Todd Levy

From Toronto, Ontario, Todd is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s Medical School. He perused post-graduate studies in Toronto and London and now practices Family and Urgent Care Medicine in Toronto. Todd was a Manitou camper four three years and joins us now for his 11th summer as one of our Camp Doctors.
Nikki Lewis

From Toronto, Ontario, Nikki is a student at Forest Hill Collegiate. During the year, Nikki heads her school’s Cookies for Cancer fundraising club and has also volunteered with Ve’ahavta. She also holds her Bronze Cross. A Manitou camper for eight years, Nikki completed our CIT program in 2010. This will be her first summer on staff.
Kara Martin

From Armidale, Australia, Kara works as a Registered Nurse in Paediatrics and is a residential duty staff member at The Armidale School. During the year, she also coaches gymnastics and rugby at the school. She is a graduate of the University of New England with a degree in Nursing and is now working towards her Masters degree in Nursing Education. She also has experience working as an Aupair with autistic children in Marietta, Georgia. Kara has 15 years dance experience in Tap, Jazz and Ballet as a performer and assistant teacher at Tutu, Tap & Turn and also has experience as a soccer coach and reading tutor. This will be Kara’s fourth summer at Manitou.
Allana McComb

From Ajax, Ontario, Allana is a student at the University of Guelph studying Criminal Justice and Public Policy. Allana volunteers with her university’s Student Help and Advocacy Centre and previously has volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society and ran a tutoring program at her high school. This will be Allana’s first summer at Manitou.
Michael Peer

Originally from Dundas, Ontario, Michael now lives in Toronto where he works in Paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children. A graduate of the Medical School at the University of Western Ontario in London, Michael went on to train in Paediatrics at Sick Kids. He also spent several years at Camp Tawingo growing up. This will be his fifth summer at Manitou.
Chuck Reid

From McKellar, Ontario, Chuck is the most recent member of our facility team. He is a licensed carpenter having attended school in Ottawa. He has experience building homes with Viceroy Homes as well as log cabins. This will be his fourth summer at Manitou.
Joelle Salzman

From Montreal, Quebec, Joelle is a graduate of Bialik High School. During the year, Joelle served as producer for her shcool’s Fashion Show fundraiser. She has also volunteered for the CJA and holds her Bronze Cross. A Manitou camper for eight years, Joelle completed our CIT program in 2010. This will be her first summer on staff.
Michael Sherman

From Toronto, Ontario, Michael is a student at the University of Guelph studying Market Management. He has experience playing competitive hockey and baseball. A Manitou camper for six years, Michael completed our CIT program in 2006. This will be his fifth summer on staff and 11th at Manitou.
Maxine Sobisch

From Waterloo, Ontario, Maxine is a graduate of Bluevale Collegiate. Maxine worked during the winter as a lift attendant at Chicopee Ski Hill and participates in snowboarding, baseball and tennis. She also worked a season as part of the kitchen staff at Camp Tamakwa. This will be Maxine’s first summer at Manitou.
Jessi Stern

From Toronto, Ontario, Jessi is a student at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo studying Film and Sociology. During the year, Jessi is an executive with her student union’s Activities Team and is a member of the Orientation Team. In high school she played on her school’s Basketball and Softball teams and also sat on the student council. She also has experience as an Umpire with North Toronto Baseball, has volunteered at Eglinton School and holds her Bronze Cross. Jessi was a Manitou camper for six years completing our CIT program in 2006. This will be her fifth summer on staff and 11th at Manitou.
